Early GBFR- Week 13

Today we'll point the car Northbound. We're headed to Chicago to attend a surprise Birthday party being given for the gal that was Sara Jean's closest friend when she was growing up.

Wanting to insure I could use my own scale, I planned to meet my goal a day early this week...
I hit my weight goal, but it WAS work! These last few pounds are gonna be a problem. More exercise is the answer, but finding the time for that is gonna be difficult.

Anyway, it's Chicago this weekend, then next weekend we fly to Mesa to see Big Bubba for the first time since we moved him there.
Some of you know... as the co-editor of one of the most
popular Science Fiction websites, Gateworld.net, my son is a minor celebrity. While we are there next weekend, a film crew is coming down from Vancouver to film Big Bubba for a Canadian Sci-Fi documentary. They are aware we will be there for the weekend and have asked us to bring mementos from Big Bubba's childhood that were instrumental in leading him to a career in Science Fiction. They've also indicated they'll be interviewing us. They'll shoot 6 hours of film for a 15 minute segment on the show. It should be interesting.

Returning from Mesa, it's a downhill run to the DDFF.
The thought of fresh Grouper fried in Peanut Oil makes my mouth water!

GB,
You must be so proud of your son. It sounds like you're going to have a great time in Mesa. That would be exciting to be the parent of a "celebrity". I wasn't aware he was the co-editor of a science fiction website, but I am now and I'll visit it often.
Have fun in Mesa & Chicago.

Congratulation on your weight loss, your son and your wonderful travels ahead. Not necessarily in that order.
I am going to check out his site as I am a total Lost fan.
Have a wonderful trip.

golden horse,
You're a "Lost" fan? So am I.
Last year sucked, though, and I was ready to forget about it. My daughter stopped watching it last year, too. Too many questions and not enough answers.
This year has been a lot better and even entertaining when Hurley found that old VW bus and Sawyer helped him start it. That was hilarious.

I totally agree with you, they have put new life into the show this year.
As for the VW scenes, that was hilarious and well done. They shoot alot of scenes on the NorthShore and the tourists are eating it up.
Like so many shows nowadays, constant repeats, long breaks, short season, changing nights and times, I have lost interest in many shows I used to watch.
What ever happened to the tv season of 40 weeks and then only during the summer, you got 12 weeks of reruns. Oh, for those days again.

GB, will we recognize you in May? Congrats on the fitness program and keep up the good work. Say Hi to Big Bubba for us and drive carefully while in Chicago. And remember - cars do have brakes.... You may need them there. Sarah, I'm ready for some of your wonderful peanut butter cookies! How has GB resisted those? The best ever....

Joker - "Lost" - another reason why you should visit Hawaii in November! Besides that reason, aren't you ready for another one of those drinks - you know, the ones that have the little umbrella in them....

twodogs,
I'm sure everyone would have a good laugh watching Joker crawl to her room after having one of those umbrella drinks and I would have a good laugh about it too... maybe 3 days later. LoL
Believe me, I would love to visit Hawaii again. We'll see.

Joker-
We'll get ya "tuned up" for Hawaii in Destin! If you want umbrellas in your drinks I might have to do a little research, but I'm sure we can find 'em!

TD- There is definitely a new, more aerodynamic Greybeard parting the air, but I don't think you'll have any trouble recognizing this gray head, or the smile you'll see when I see classmates in May!
And if it's PB cookies you want, I'm sure Sara Jean can fill that order! (Gotta have a big-ol' glass of ice cold milk with mine.)

What a small world it is. I’ve enjoyed the STARGATE series for years and discovered GATEWORLD about a year ago. Now I find that your son is an editor of what has become one of my favorite e’zines. Please give him my congrats and thanks.

What an impressive kid!! And on Canadian TV!
I took a Poli Sci class once (a summer class) that included watching Star Trek as part of the daily assignment. The next day we would get quizzed on what types of governments were represented, what leadership styles etc. I got hooked!
Later I went to a Star Trek convention to write articles for another class. Saw Lt. Sulu and everything! It was so much fun in the late 70's.
About 20 years later, I went to another ST convention and MAN OH MAN! Things had changed BIG time!! If ya didn't have an $80 Tricorder (made of wood and didn’t even have lights or sound), ya just weren't with it.
Instead I joined the Klingon Nurse Corps which required very little work. Their motto seemed to be "If a warrior is sick, the force is weakened. Vaporize him". Saves a lot of surgery time and bandages I guess.
Have a safe trip, GB.
