Teaser Test

Just hooked up my scanner and I'm amazed I can actually get from point A to point B with it!

Remember these guys?
This would have been about August of 1966...
(My gosh, that's 41 years ago, isn't it!?)

Gearhead trivia question: What kind of car? What year? And (Hawkeye is disqualified!), what was the displacement of the engine?

Who cares about the car? Who are those two handsome dudes standing by it?

Is this from a scene of a Frank Sinatra movie?

I just noticed something-
We owned a housedog, and this photo verifies it!

The car is a '55 or '56 Chevy Bel Air; I would tell you the displacement but I don't know if it's a 6 or 8 cylinder.

Nice try, Bo, but it's gonna take a car fanatic to know the answer to the first two questions, and it'll take someone with inside knowledge about the sailor to know the displacement question.

A hint:
It's a Pontiac.

Dis placement of the engine was under the hood.

Oh...
My...
Gosh!

Since the sailor is an Irishman with a warm heart and a need for speed, I think the dis placement IS under the hood, like GH said. The engine must have been replaced with a super sized engine....just like the Irish Sailor's heart.

Aren't you sad you asked those questions now GB?
Look at what you dregged up out of the blue...
I am going for the 8 cyl. but the rest, I will leave up to the pros. The sad part of it is, you have only responses from chicks. Are we the only ones that know so much about cars?? Just look at the info Bo and I already gave you. The challenge has been tossed into the ring.
I still like the two dudes in the pic though. I am just not sure which movie scene they are from. Anchors Away or The Perfect Furlough.

TPO wrote me:
"Boy, did we look young and obviously with no idea of what was to come in the near future. It was funny that I got this today---40 years since Sgt. Pepper's release by
the Beatles.
Remember this? I voted for 'She Loves You' and you voted for 'I Want To Hold
Your Hand'. Back when WIBC played rock. Hope all is well with you and yours."

GH-
I guess it shows I'm the only one interested in such trivial detail.
That '63 Pontiac Catalina had a 421 cubic inch engine and three-two barrel carburetors... and made HUGE horsepower. RS's Bonneville convertible had the same engine. Both cars were "scary" fast.
What's telling though is that 40+ years later, here we are... still communicating like it was yesterday, planning face-to-face meetings.
Wonderful.

I remember seeing TPO at the "new" Greenwood Mall in his white sailor uniform and how handsome he looked. I didn't know he was driving a rompin' stompin' Pontiac Catalina at the time.

But I can verify that RS Bonneville was scary....I don't know how we survived "just keepin' it between the telephone poles" WITH THE HEADLIGHTS OFF on Fry Rd.

Sg. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album anniversary ..... I can't believe its been 41 years. I thought "Will You Still Need Me; Will You Still Feed Me When I'm 64 was a hoot. Now, my dear Max will be singing that song in August. My perspective is changed from when I clearly remember holding that precious new album.

You are so right and I am so glad we all still have some humor left.
We have to get BO here also. She would be a hoot. I am looking for a red convertible for her. LOL
That was back when they really built cars. When a race at the 500 was a test of who could put together the best engine, tires, chassis, and such. They have totally take the fun out of it. I mean where are the Novis and Parnelli's wonderful turbine?
