Bonehead.

She called me at work...
"We have a problem."
"What's wrong?"
"We have no water."
"Uh-oh."

I pay the water bill in person. The water department is right along a route I drive almost daily, so why waste the postage? I pay the bill three or four months in advance so I don't have to do it often.
Most times, the bill comes with green printing indicating I still have a credit balance. This time the bill came in red with a "Disconnect!" warning...

If the bill wasn't paid within 10 days they'd shut our water off.

I extended my hands and fingers in front of me and counted...
When I was done, I figured I had until today to pay the bill.
I counted wrong.
I had until yesterday. Since I've worked straight days... a 12 hour shift for the past week, there was no time to drive past the office and pay the bill.

So I paid it first thing this morning, to include the $25 reconnect fee.
I ran a couple errands, came home, and flushed the toilet...
Having water pressure in the house is a wonderful thing, isn't it?

Anything exciting or irritating, (or both) goin' on in your life?
Surely I'm not the only bonehead in our group!

I haven't done anything boneheaded this week, but I'm sure that'll change soon.

I filled out the paper timesheet and handed it in this week. You see...I work for a huge technology company, but seems it takes them a few weeks to get new employees into their "system". I put down nine hours for Wednesday, Thursday, and eight for today--adding up to 26 hours.

Then I found out quite accidentally that we are only going to get paid for 24 hours this week. I verified this with who I assume will still be my boss, and then went home two hours early.

Things that make ya go "Hmmmmmmm"......

Ok, does writing a nametag for your husband with the letters G E O R G E count if his name is Bob?

Well it is 29 degrees and going to get to 60 in a little while. April is coming soon. The only thing I can do is go check out the boat. Guess I will go bass fishing. Don't want to wait till Eufaula to find out the boat need work. Carol is in Ohio and I have no ADULT supervison. I hope you'll are counting the days I am. We still have room for some more people.
TC & TD pack your rods or use mine.
GB this blog is not big enough to put all my bonehead stunts. Try letting you wife fall overboard twice. You will have to be in Eufaula to hear the stories.

Twice, huh? And she still goes out on the boat with you? I would be a little concerned if I were her. LOL

Wish I could be in Eufaula to hear the details. I'm sure it's a very interesting story.

I didn't say she still goes out with me. Wish you could be with us. H

Is she really in Ohio? Or are you just not telling us the whole story? She fell overboard twice - did she get back on twice? Inquiring minds want to know!

I'm pretty tied up babysitting this year. Hopefully next year I'll have a little more free time.

Gonna be 45 today here, H...
Feels like 60. The roads are clear and the promise of mud on your shoes if you step off the pavement is everywhere, but we'll be takin' Lucy for a walk this afternoon...
First time out for her to really stretch her little legs in a LONG TIME.

Good luck Cissy with this new employer. Sounds like there already are "loyalty" issues. That seems to be the way things are going, more and more these days. Don't ya hate that?

We need to start really focusing on Eufaula next week. I'm glad to hear we have, what is it... twelve?... definitely headed that way. I'm excited about this...
Like the slumber party at Ferdy's, this will be a chance to really relax and visit with one another.
(And this town is straight out of "Gone With The Wind"!)

Rita, you and "George" need the R&R. If you come to Eufaula, I promise to defend you against Cissy's barbs and arrows! (And where is fisherman Mike and his even more fishing-crazy wife?)

I have not had a REAL day off in about three weeks. Tonight I am taking my bride out for a "Valentine's Day" dinner at one of her favorites-
"The Olive Garden", where I'll be having my regular "heart attack on a dinner plate", breadsticks, and salad. If you never hear from me again, check the obituaries.

GB I was wrong about the temp. It got to 70 today. We do have 12 people on the way to Eufaula. We have room for more... You are right about it being from Gone with the Wind, only with a Wal-Mart
The only thing about this slumber party is it will slow way down about 9pm.
Ferdy, Carol is really in Ohio with Our Grandkids. I took off 3 days to help out down here. She fell out on 2 differant trips. The last time I made her walk aroung the dock and up the ramp. (just a few gators in that part of the lake) I'm still in hot water about that.
TD and TC, good trip today 4lb and two 2lb. I guess I will eat them tomorrow for lunch. H of H&C

GB: It's Mark and his wife that are the fishermen. Mike would rather play on his computer.

And I would rather fish when we are in Fort Myers than do anything else. I LOVE it.

I need the R&R, "George" just got back from 3 weeks in Florida while I had to stay and work.

Thanks for protecting me from Cissy. She kicked me once when I was little. I don't think she can get her leg that high anymore, but she's still mean as a rattlesnake.

Mike and I were the only sweet ones growing up.

The trip sounds like a blast, hope you all have a good time and the fish are bitin'.

Cissy Apple said...

Kicked you once? It was more than that, but after that good, hard kick in the head, you seemed to have a problem remembering much of anything.

Just glad you and Mark finally grew out of your meaness and I could stop beating the tar out of both of you. I was starting to grow tired of it, and Mom never did pay me for the good care I gave you and Mark.

Rita said...

Do you think any of the Vandy Kids tire of hearing our horrible tales of woe growing up?

And VK's, you heard that right, she kicked me more than once. She was and IS SIX YEARS OLDER than me.

She used to brag about that, but now I get the last laugh. Cissy, you're SIX YEARS OLDER than me. Ain't that a kick in the head.

I was wrong about the temp too, H.
It was 60 here today... sunny and delightful. For the first time in weeks we took the dogs for a 2 1/2 mile walk. (We're dog-sitting a friend's Schnauzer.) Sara Jean and I started the walk overdressed and had to quickly shed some layers of protection. We all needed and enjoyed it.

I'm back to work tonight for five nights... 12 hours each. Friday morning we'll be headed South to Pensacola to visit with Mom for a few days. She's scheduled for surgery the second week in March, and it's been weeks since we've seen her... work has been a time thief.

I hope you retired folks realize how fortunate you are.
I'm still working TONS of overtime because we are short-staffed. It doesn't take long before you begin to feel a little numb and in need of some "fun" time. Joining you in retirement is looking more and more attractive! (I just wish I felt more comfortable with what I'm seeing in my crystal ball.)

Eufaula can't come soon enough.

Harry next year I will be down to do some deer hunting with you. We will discuss in April. Hope you get one yet this year. I have my fishing gear ready also just got my order from Bass Pro, new baits.Sounds like you had a great weekend fishing. I'm going to be in Paris,Tn. middle of March smallmouth bass fishing. Then the last week of March be in Texas fishing,Bobcat and Coyoto hunting. Echo hope the houses all work out great time to be buying houses. Sharon and I looked at two more this weekend. They will be selling at the Sheriff sale soon. She says she will kill me if I buy another house but if the price is right you can't pass them up. We just bought the farm out from Sharons sister so we now have two homes up there. We gave the new log home to our son Scott to use and we will have Sharons dads house some day. He's 88 and I hope he makes it to 100. Scott and I have been going up alot of weekends working on the place and it is really looking good. Sharons dad is able to get out with us in the golf cart and watch us work. We've been clearing alot of trees and brush having a fire and roasting hotdogs for lunch its been a great joy working together. TD it looks like you and I are on the same time table to retire, January of 2012. I'm just afraid Cindy and Sharon may kill us if were home all the time. Of course I guess I could take more trips to hunt, fish and play golf so I'm not under her feet. GB I'm so glad you work so hard at keeping the blog going I read it almost daily I'm just not much of a writer you are great writer any everyone else who participates thanks. Has anyone heard from Patsy about maybe being in Eufala with cap? How about John Tieke and Barb? See you guys soon.

Rita,
Got a kick out of your story about making a name tag for your husband "BOB" with G E O R G E.

Got the same question that I AM SURE your hubby wanted to know.

WHO IS GEORGE ????

Did something similar. I was married before and my husbands name was Dallas. We was a at big business dinner and I started to introduce him to some business executives. I said, "I would like you to meet my husband _ _ _ _. And my mind went totally blank. I couldn't tell you his name at that time if my life depended on it.

Everyone just stood that looking at me. My ex leaned over - smiled- and said. " I'm Dallas, her husband of the week".

Thinking back to this - it should have given me the hint then he would end up an EX. HAHA

UP DATE

As I posted Shifty and I have been considering selling our house in Edinburgh. The couple made us an offer. We have an offer in on the house in Florida, and they have until next week to let us know if they accept it.

This is all so scary. Everything happening so fast. We love our house in Edinburgh but it is just getting to much for us to handle "in our old age". Hard to keep up on the mowing, weeding etc. When we built we knew that we would eventually sell and move into something smaller. Was looking at the house and property as a future investment for retirement. Then the economy went down and of course the investment. We are thinking we should get out now rather than wait. So many bigger homes are just sitting on the market and this could be our chance to at least come out ahead. But still it is scary, A couple of other homes in our sub division was on the market for two years and one is still sitting. Maybe this is all ment to be.

If all goes through I guess the Harris Annual Mini's will be in WARMER WEATHER.

Will keep you posted.

The answer to that question is NO! That is part of what makes VKs so special. We understand each other and it seems like we are more 'family' than anything else. No disrespect intended here, but, we are all Vandy's Kids....In the earlier days of VK, we all had stories to tell about ourselves growing up. Some of our best 'conversations' happen during those times. So, keep it up - we enjoy the stories. Although, now, it does seem best that you two do not live next to each other.

It sounds like 'Kevins got this!' Tell him to stay positive...

Echo, be brave - it sounds as if the timing is right on this move. Whatever it brings - go with it.

Like GB, we are looking forward to Eufaula.

TD: Thx. Luckily Helen and Mark got over their abuse as they got old.

As you can probably tell, we actually are a very close family, growing closer with each passing year. Since Dad passed away none of us ever end a phone call without saying "love you". Sure Mark and Helen beat me as a child, but I've forgiven them because now they (and Mike) are old and I'm not.

It was amazing to find this group a year or so ago, I couldn't imagine all the history of the valley all wrapped up in one place. It's wonderful because it reminds me of things and people I had let slip from my memory.

And thankfully BG continues to post something at least once a week, so it keeps us all connected.

Echo: We were at a new members dinner at our church, Bob was talking with an old friend (who is also NOT named George), I was listening to the conversation when Bob looked down and said, "W H A T are you doing?"

I looked at what I had written, which was actually only at that point G E O R and I could tell that my possessed right hand was about to write another G.

I don't know anyone named George so I can only guess I overheard someone in the crowd say George and that's what my hand decided to write. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. It was quite a joke around church for a long time.

OK, so I'll admit that was a bonehead thing.
