Mr. L. Is Worried About Me.

I don't much care for whiners.
So I try to avoid being a whiny pain in the ### myself.
This post is gonna sound whiny.
But with it I will accomplish a couple things I need to do.

Through the grapevine I got a message sent by Mr. L.:
"I think something is wrong with (Greybeard)!!!!!!????? That is not like him not to have some type of article in Vandy's Kids.

Sigh.

I've mentioned before, when we started this blog our hope was that it would be used as a convenient way to have a chat "over the backyard fence"...
A place for everyone to come and share news that you'd normally see in a family newsletter...
Information about kids/grandkids.
Travel plans.
Retirement thoughts.
Plans for get-togethers.
Those sorts of things.

Well, it hasn't turned out that way. In the beginning it was SUCH fun. Go back and look at the first year...
There were several people contributing and even more commenting. But over the years, the folks that were sharing info here fell by the wayside. And worse, commenting pretty much stopped. A vehicle we hoped would be kinda like a snowball rolling down a hill...
A little news here, a little more there, and conversations building geometrically on information shared here, just never happened.

Sure, I'm disappointed.
But, as the kids say today, "It is what it is".
I tried. I have my own blog and actually have a small group of followers there, and some there have even become close "virtual" friends.
I post.
They comment.
And, knowing there are folks out there reading who, for whatever reason, care enough to comment, I am motivated to post again.

So that, my dear friends, is why there has been no updating here for a month or so.
If someone else would like to pick up the baton and post here, I promise there'll be at least one person commenting and showing interest in what is going on here at Vandy's Kids.

But should you want to stay semi-informed as to what is going on in the Greybeard and Sara Jean "Soap Opera", you can catch up with us at Pitchpull, my personal blog.

PT?
Hawkeye/Mrs. Hawk?
GH?
Joker?
Anyone else?
Run with it. It's all yours.
(And Mr. L., I'm fine and can be reached at the same email address as usual. Thanks for being concerned!)

Awww. And I've missed the regular Friday posts on here. A few weeks back I found someone on fb that I remembered from school, but he ran in a different crowd (well I had no crowd, so I really didn't run anywhere). I only ended up getting to be fb friends with him because his wife is very sick and he was asking for prayers, which we're all happy to do.

This week he posted something about getting whacked from his parents as a kid, then I mentioned something about remembering that he seemed to get in trouble in school too.

The next thing you know, there were tons of schoolmates commenting. They were mentioning teachers I had long forgotten and stories I never knew, classmates that were friends.

I'd say it was a trip down memory lane, but then I would have had to have some of the memories to begin with. I went looking for my old yearbooks, but could only find 1974's when I was a freshman.

I spent an hour or two looking at the pictures and the names of people I'd long forgotten. Most of those were just impressions of people. That one was nice, this one was a bully, another one was an elementary school friend who I had forgotten about.

There were 231 graduates in my class of 77, when I meet up with your class of 65 and see how different it was than when I was in school, I wish I could have had that same closeness you all had and have kept.

Lifelong friends. You'll never really be out of touch.

God Bless.

Mr. Greybeard,
Someone ratted on me, and I think it was "Bo". Glad you are back writing articles again. I became concerned when they did not appear. Thank goodness you and your wife are okay. After two eye surgeries in the left eye the past several months I am able to see better than I have in 20 years, and waiting to be fitted for glasses in about a month. It is always a delight to keep in contact by e-mail or telephone with my past CG students, and by the way, the most of all the other places that I taught. Nothing like CG from my past.
God Bless,
Mr. L

GB,
Just read your recent post. I must admit my lack of participation in writing posts are due to your exceptional writing capabilities. YOU intimidate me! Ha! I do wish I could express myself nearly half as well as you do. My life isn't nearly as exciting and interesting as you express yours. So, put that in your pipe and smoke it! HA!!
Your buddy,
Bo

[Sigh.]
Well Bo, I guess that excuse is as good as any for not telling us how your vegetables are growing.

Sara Jean left for Chicago yesterday and will be gone four days. She filled the 'fridge with food for me so I won't dry up and blow away.

So good to hear that Sara Jean takes care of you (best she can). Clint should be so lucky.
The flower garden has taken an ugly turn from lack of water; seems like rain has been all around us but we only get a drop or two.

Cline's bike has been leaking oil. That's been the major concern in our home for the past 3 days. He thinks he has it fixed...we will what comes to pass.

Tools' mother passed away; the notice was in this morning's newspaper but no arrangements were given yet. Mr. Tuley's funeral was private; hers may be the same...I don't know.

I'll close with that sad news.

Bo

Good to hear your "voice" GB. A while ago I asked about someone posting (again, sorry) "how to post on vandy's kids" If someone could post or email that info again it would help in posting something here. Mr. L, glad to hear you're seeing better again.

Thanks

Great idea dj. I tried to post but couldn't get past my own blog.
I'm sure I'm missing an obvious step but I don't know what that might be.

p.s. Maybe a "Blogging on Vandyskids For Dummies" would work.

Bo, I like the idea and I would qualify for the more directions part!

Hey Gang

For any of you that might be on facebook. I've created a group called Smith Valley Kids for anyone who has any memories of the Valley.

Come join. We need more pics and stories of what the Valley was like "back in the day".

Hope to meet up with you all again soon.

I've posted some pics on the fb group from last year's Valley Walk.

DJ,
Hope you enjoyed the State Fair. How did you find the "atmosphere" after the horrible accident Sat. night? What a horrible thing to happen.

Hey Bo, Was out there 4 Days, l helped my buddy show, he ended up winning Supreme Breeder and Supreme Showman for Guernsey Breed. Last day was Thursday (got there at 5:15 and helped feed / cleanup and milk before we loaded everything up (tack and 13 cattle) and they left at around 9:45 headed fro Breman, IN. There's no good way to get there, just straight up 31. Mood was somewhat dampened and they canceled all of the 4H dairy show. I understood why, but the kids were all already there (had been for 1-2 days and a lot of folks were surprised that they didn't go ahead with the 4H on Sunday. Just had to walk from the barn to the coliseum, but that put a damper on the show (cattle) side as well. Was going to go back out to watch the Fox Stake but not this year, hopefully next year will all be better! I usually walk the Fair and go to the backside at least 2-3 times, but didn't go anywhere but the Cattle barn this year. Did see Steve and Cindy S. when I was on the way to the coliseum (with a cow) so just yelled Hi! and went on. All in all it was a pretty good time; weather was great and it looks like my buddy will survive the big C, so it was good. Best to all the V-kids out there. Hope to see some of you at Madison.

I how Vandykids don't end up on that Moribund list over there ------------------------------>

Anonymous said...

No reason for that (someone has to put VK's there) and all that needs to happen is for someone to post. "Good Morning,;What's new in your world?" That would be a start!

Amen, Anon!
Step up and show the rest how.

When my friends have heard all my stories. I either need new stories or new friends.

Anonymous said...

Sure glad my friendships don't hinge on the stories I or they have or haven't heard. Funny thing is (at least for me and my friends) is that the more the old stories are told, and the facts sometimes seem to have changed, the more endearing are the stories and the old friends. But then again, my life isn't that cut and dry; but I do value my friends for more than the new stories they have or haven't told. No disrespect meant to anyone, just interesting the different outlooks we all have. Hope all you VKer's have a really good Labor Day weekend.

P.S. We probably need to get back to identifying ourselves when we post???? Me included!

A reunion of sorts is being planned for the Valley, much like our Valley Walk last year for September 24th. The group is the Smith Valley Kids facebook group and range from all ages. The fb has been helpful remember who lived where and when. You don't have to have had (that sentence looks weird) lived in the Valley, just lots of good (or bad) memories and want to weave together our history. One of the fb group is involved with the church, so the event is starting there at 4 p.m. Hope you VK'ers can make it and help us oldster's teach those youngin's some learnin about how it use to been.
