HOW GOOD IS YOUR MEMORY ?????
In past postings we have talked about "old songs" so thought that this would be
fun for everyone.
How many shows can we come up with that we USED to watch that are no longer on TV?
A friend of mine (I do have a few left) sent this idea to me. It had a great list and I was surprised at how many was on the list that I hadn't thought about in years.
I am only going to put down a few just to get you started. Let's see how many more your guys
can come up with. After we see how many we can come up with I will fill in any that was on the list that we missed.
Sky King
Land of the Giants
American Bandstand
Have Gun Will Travel
Car 54 where are you
Ozzie and Harriet
Laugh IN
Route 66
Captain Kangaroo
Hit Parade
Father Knows Best
My LIttle Margie
Ok guys, so being sick has taken some what of a toll. I'm getting enjoyment out of some really odd things. But everyone has been trying to send me things to keep my mind active. Guess they think that having "blood clots" keeps me out of touch with reality. HAHA.

Daddy always wanted to watch "Rawhide." I think that's where Clint Eastwood got his start. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. On Saturday mornings I use to watch Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, My Friend Flicka and Gene Autry.
Echo, glad to know you're feeling better. One of these days when you least suspect it, I'm going to show up at your house! Take care.
Ferdy
Ferdy, I think you're right about Rawhide and Clint Eastwood. Clint's name on the show was Rowdy Yates, remember that?
I've got to add: Fury, Wagon Train, Bonanza and I Love Lucy.
Of course I Love Lucy has been in reruns forever . . .I don't think it ever left us.

Hello Echo I'm glad your feeling better. Get well girl. Tell Shifty to get a big deer lined out. Need to come up and go hunting with him. By the way when is the date for your get together in Indy? Flygirl are you and Cap going to Hawaii? Ferdy how you doing I haven't seen you cruising Ferdinand lately? Maybe we need to put a Frostop there. You know there is one in Tell City. Everytime I pass it I think of the old one. We can all sit done and still watch the old shows they were great. Rifleman, Wild Wild West. No good ones now. Everyone take care.
Purple Tabby, the Maxwell Smart character was in the show "Get Smart" there was agent 99 and agent 86. I think his name was Don Adams.
Dianne Carroll played the nurse Julia, but I can't remember the name of the show.
Some more:

Leave it to Beaver
Father Knows Best
Wow PT,
I didn't realize you were so much older than me to remember all of those. LOL
I like Twightlight Zone and Wagontrain and the 20 mule team Borax movies. Rod Serling, gosh what memories, thanks a bunch.
Jack Lalane?
Who da heck is that?
Any red blooded pre-teen male was too busy watching Debbie Drake to pay attention to Jack La... who?
77 Sunset Strip- Kookie lend me your comb! And a follow-up pretender, Surfside 6.
Echo, it's funny you'd mention Have Gun Will Travel. Just the other night the theme to that show came to mind... weird, huh?
"Have Gun, Will Travel reads the card of a man...
We always watched Navy Log, The Honeymooners, What's My Line, the Original "Price is Right"
If you watch late at night on
TVLand or the Game Show network, you can sometimes catch reruns of some of these shows.
Thanks for the memories, Echo.

Great memories Vandy Kids! I guess we all watched a lot of TV growing up! Iloved all the shows mentioned. There wasn't much else to do growing up out in the country. I thought I'd watched a lot of TV, but Tabby's got a great list!
How about Ding Dong School with Miss Francis. Remember Winky Dinky??? If you were really lucky your parents let you put this film on the TV screen and you would trace what was being drawn on the show. I did not have the film to put on the TV screen! My dad would have beat me for drawing on the TV screen. I couldn't make him understand the concept.

TC: It's not looking very good for the Hawaii trip. I'm still trying to make it work. I'm dancing around my Mom, but not giving up yet.
By the way, hats off to the 60's cartoon "Top Cat"!!!
I just posted the previous comment anonymously without signing! I've got to figure out my password...aagghhh!
Patsy
Patsy, I think the name of the show with Cleo & Jackie Cooper was called "People's Choice", but I could be wrong.
and how can we forget "Lassie"
an off topic question - does anyone have an idea for a crash helmet we can send Vandy? Something soft that needs our own brand of decorations? Something like the Cheese Head hats?
The Mickey Mouse Club
Bo
Fly,
I can remember my Password but for some reason it will not work for the Blog. I've signed in and resigned in over and over but I can't get it to work. I don't know how all these other VK's are posting but I'm getting just "a little testy" about it! HA! So I guess I'll remain Anonymous.
So you may know your password but it won't work like mine....just thought I'd let you know so you can get "testy" with me!!
Bo
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that can't get my password to work. Must be a glitch some where.
Didn't Lana Turner emcee a weekly movie? "You Are There" was a show my mom liked. For some reason that show always scared me. Has "Amos and Andy" been mentioned?
Ferdy
TC - A Frostop in Ferdinand would be great! Actually, I think a Cracker Barrel out by the interstate would be super. Bring Sharon with you sometime when you're cruising Ferdinand and we'll all have lunch together.
Ferdy
Fly and Bo, I tooooo experience the "incorrect password" message everytime I try to post. The Best deal is that it will let me spend 1/2 hour or so making a list and then it won't let me post it, and when I go off page to re-register it erases the post. I DID have a long list of shows that hadn't been mentioned yet, but as the days and weeks go by others are remembering them..... like Our Miss Brooks with "Walter" and Mickey Mouse Club with 'Spin and Marty" I just stopped and previewed this post and it let me do it, so here goes one last attempt at a few that haven't been mentioned..........And it goes without saying, ignore my speling! Some shows are from long ago and others are not so so long ago.
First and Foremost an old Hoosier
RED SKELTON
Arthur Godfry
Fly just mentioned the next three..

Happy 4th of July to all !!!!! I think that's when I started this post. Later DJ
Ferdy,
I'm thinking maybe you are remembering "The Loretta Young Show" where she would come through a door at the beginning, very dramatic, and introduce the program for that day. Was that a daytime show? She seemed to always have beautiful full skirts and would twril(how in the heck do you spell TWRIL?) around; I was SO impressed!!
How about "The Millionare" show where the man goes to someones house and gives them a MILLION DOLLARS; but they can't tell where they got the money. I'M STILL WAITING FOR THAT GUY. You never know when The Millionare man might come so I always answer my door!
I liked Dragnet, Alfred Hitchcok and the Twilight Zone. Dinah Shore and Perry Como and GOOD 'OL TENNESSEE EARNIE FORD.
Bo
Bo, I think you're right. It was Loretta Young. But, I don't think it was a daytime show because Mom would have been at work then. It seems to me it was a once a week night time show.
Boy, those were the good old days. When tangerines were in season I would sit on the floor in front of Daddy's chair and he would peel the tangerines for me. That always seemed to make anything we were watching on TV so much better! This blog is really bringing back some great memories. Thanks, Echo, for getting it started.
Ferdy
The Cisco Kid
with his horse Diablo and his sidekick, Pancho.
I always knew the horses names in all those westerns, can only remember about half now.
OMG!!! This Post is so much fun!
Loretta Young and her swirling/twirling entrance through those double doors! Absouletly the best show, but I can't remember the time slot?
Cisco Kid: "Oh, Pancho - Oh, Cisco"! And Duncan Renaldo was so handsome!
Didn't Andy Devine host the Buster Brown show with Froggy? I've got an old button with Tide & Buster's picture on it.
JOKER-Thanks for the tile "People's Choice", right!
How about that talk show from Cincinnati with Ruth Lyons?
More Fun with TV Memories...
TV Trivia:
The Millionaire: The name of the Millionaire? Ta Da: John Bearsford Tipton!!! How's that for useless information?
My Little Margie: The neighbor lady who lived down the hall?
Roy Rogers Show: The name of the jeep? Dale's horses' name? Joker's got this one!
The Real McCoys: Who was the mexican handyman?
Our Miss Brooks: The land lady's cat's name?
Lassie: Two Parts - 1. Tommy's best friend's name? 2. They had a "call" between them?
Had enough useless info yet? Ha!
Glad to hear other VK's are having password difficulties. I was beginning to think that I was really going "nuts". I was so sure of my password, etc. but couldn't get on...whew! No need to get "testy", I guess. I'll just stay ANON.
Patsy
Patsy,
>Ruth Lyons: 50-50 Club
>Dale Evans horse: Buttermilk
>Roy's jeep: (it's on the tip of my tongue??)
>Real McCoys handyman: Pepino
>My Little Margie: was it Zazu Pitts?
>Lassie's first owner was Jeff, played by Tommy Rettig and the second owner was Timmy, but I don't remember their best friends.
>Andy Devine played "Jingles" on some western, but I can't remember the name. Was it "Kit Carson"?
more TV:
The Fugitive
The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
This is a lot of fun, and I had no I watched this much TV when I was a kid and I can't believe I retained so much info. wow!
Nelly(ie?)belle the Jeep, but didn't it belong to Pat Butram?
To those having problems with signing on, just a thought:
Blogger changed format about two or three months ago, just about the time you all started having problems getting on. I started having to put my entire email address into the "username" slot... ie.
Olddad65@hotmail.com
and my password remained the same. I'm hopeful that may solve some of your problems.
Ahhhh, Nelly Belle.
Thank you, GB. I was close.
I kept thinking Clara Belle, but I knew that was a clown on Howdy Doody. I'm pretty sure the jeep did belong to Pat Butrum.
Hey Joker / GB, Just lost another post,(wrong password) so this will be short. Jingles used to yell "Hey wild Bill, wait for me" Wild Bill Hickock. Nellie Belle's driver was Pat Brady, and that was his real life real name, really. I'm thinking that Pat Butrum was Mr. Chaney on Green Acres.
Another show was Spike Jones (He was crazy) a "Laugh In" before its time.
Ding, Ding, Ding! All correct answers! Ha! I love it!
DAR: Yeah...Nellie-Bell!
DJ: good call on Pat Brady & Nellie-Belle! And, yep Pat Butrum on Green Acres (...is the place for me...) And Spike Jones was waaaayyy before his time. What drugs was he on??? Ha!
Wasn't Wild Bill Hickcock sponsered by Sugar Pops cereal??? "Sugar Pops are Tops".
Joker: Margie's neighbor was Mrs. Odettes. She was always getting involved in Margie's escapades. She was an English actress, older, can't think of her name...but, she was in the Alfred Hitchcock movie Foreign Correspondent with Joel Gray(sp),Lorraine Day & Herbert Marshall. She survived the plane crash with the others.
And you're the VK horse name specialists!
Zazu Pitts was Gale Storm's side kick and manicurist on the cruise ship. That was Gale Storm's second TV series "The Gale Storm Show". She was the cruise director. Precurser to the "Love Boat"...ha!
Lassie- Yeah Tommy & Timmy! His pal was Porky and their call was: "E-Ah-Kee". Very Corney!!! Ha! Why do I remember this stuff???
DAR - thanks for the email tip. I'll give that a try.
This is too much fun!
Fly
Questions?????
What was Frog Millhouse's (Gene Autry's sidekick)real name?
Joker: What kind of horse did Wild Bill ride?
What TV cowboy (law enforcement) was the Grand Marshall of the Indy 500 Parade? I believe it was the first parade in 1957.
I'm guessing at Gene Autry's sidekick when I say: Gabby Hayes
I think Wild Bill had an appaloosa and I think it's name was Buckshot
My guess (again) on the 500 parade is Tex Ritter or Tom Mix
and has anybody mentioned another TV western: The Lone Ranger, with his horse Silver and Tonto with his horse Scout
Is it just me or does it seem like there were a LOT of westerns on TV when we were young?
OMG!
How did we possibly miss the Lone Ranger?
Gabby Hayes did movies with Roy Rogers...I don't remember Gabby being with Gene Autry. But I have a visual of him...a big guy, Jingles (Andy Devine) build. Ummm?
1957 Indy 500 Grand Marshall??? Wow, that's a great one?? I don't have a guess to that one?
Come on Joker....ha!
Sky King, one of my favorites, had a niece & nephew help him solve crime. And their names are???
Oh how I loved the intro to Sky King: "Out of the blue of the Western sky comes (zoooommmmmm) Sky King! Ta Da! too funny!
Fly
77 Sunset Strip. "Kookie, Kookie, lend me your comb" OMG, I can't believe I almost forgot that one. At one time I was SURE I was gonna die if I missed it. When a tornado took out our power, I was just devastated. LOL
DJ, I have the same problem with losing entries, so now I write it and copy to Word until I see if VKs takes it. Just a thought. Besides your entries are SO funny!!! I don’t want you to lose them.
Really a fun topic Echo. Thanks a bunch!
Oooo Oooo Oooo Did someone mention the Little Rascals? Or the Three Stooges? Abbot and Costello? Red Skeleton?
Yes, Indy Echo, this has been a blast from the past and SO much fun.
DJinIndy, don't leave us hanging: who was the grand marshall at the Indy500 in 1957?
Also, I do what Purple Tabby does, if I have something long to write, I do it on Word so I can save it, then copy and paste it here because I, too, have lost many a postings.
Fly, I remember Sky King had 2 kids with him, but have no recollection of their names. Anybody else know?
I can remember a lot of the old TV shows but for the life of me cannot remember Spike Jones. hmmmm
I do remember:
Pinky Lee
Soupy Sales
Sgt. Preston of the Yukon
National Velvet (w/Lori Martin)
was it Penny with Sky King? I don't remember the boy at all!
PT - Correcto on Sky King's niece, Penny. I can't remember her brother's name either. But Penny always wore the neatest Cowgirl Outfits, hat & boots too!
PT-What was Sgt. Preston's dog's name?
DJ- Wasn't Smiley Burnett Gene Autrey's side kick? I thought of Smiley's name at about 4 am this morning?? Ha! And who was the Grand Marshall at the Indy 500? Was it Gene Autry, the Singing Cowboy???
Joker- Do you remember the name of the little boy (played by an adult) that lived down the hall from Abbott & Costello? This is a good one!
Red Skelton: who were all of his characters? Clem Kaddelhopper, and ....
I sure can't remember National Velvet?
77 Sunset Strip-who was the token sexy female, and who played her?
Arthur Godfrey Show-who was the sponser?
I gotta stop this and get to the Resort Prison!
Fly
Fly, I've spent WAY too much time on this blog this weekend, too. I was on here doing some research and kept coming back here, and not getting a whole lot done: can you believe 35 posts already!!!!
You asked about the little boy on Abbott & Costello - heck! I don't even remember they had a TV show! I remember their movies, though, most of which were in haunted houses.
Nat'L Velvet: Lori Martin -pretty girl with long black hair (about 14-15 yrs old) resembled Liz Taylor. Of course any TV show with horses I was glued to the TV, since I lived and breathed horses.
77 Sunset Strip: was the girl Connie Stevens or Sandra Dee? and didn't Troy Donahue play Kookie?
What show was Efrem Zimbalist Jr in, was it Surfside 6 or 77 SunsetStrip?
Was Lipton Tea the sponsor of Authur Godfrey show?
You guys are amazing I can't remember squat. GB I think your right I had to get back on with my email as my user name. Flygirl you better get to work not all of us are retired yet or is that retarded yet? I thought Clint was Dirty Harry. Was I dream of Jeannie married to Clint? Just kidding not quite that far gone yet. But don't ask Sharon! How about the old good movies like Tarzan, Frankenstein, Warewolf, Count Dracula, John Wayne movies. They don't make them like that anymore. Food for thought.
One evening a grandson ask his grandfather about current events and what he thought about school shootings, the computer age, and just things in general. The grandfather replied, "Well let me think a minute, I was born before: Television, penicillin, polio shots, frozen foods,Xerox, contact lenses, the pill. There were no credit cards, ball-point pens, laser beams. Man had not invented: pantyhose, air conditioners, dishwashers and clothes were hung out to dry. Man hadn't walked on the moon. Your grandmother and I got married first and then lived together. Our lives were goverened by the Ten Commandments, good judgment and common sense (well maybe). Serving our country was a privilege: living in this country was a bigger privilege. Pizza Hut,McDonalds and instant coffee were unheard of.You could buy a Chevy Coupe for $1600, but who could afford one? Too bad because gas was 22 cents a gallon. Grass was mowed, Coke was a cold drink. No wonder people call us old and confused and say there is a generation gap. By the way you know how old Grandpa is. The big 60. Time flys.
This is it...no more....I gotta get off here!!!!
Joker- Connie Stevens played "Cricket". I think Cricket was her name. Ed "Kookie" Byrnes...not Troy and yep, E.Zimbalist. Weren't they detectives?
Yep, Lipton Tea! Arthur had this Hawiian gal as a regular. Arthur would play the ukellie (sp) and Ukakualli Mali (only kidding) would sing & hula dance. And the scandal of the firing of Julius LaRosa...oh my! Enough...no more.
Stinkie lived down the hall in the apartment building with Abbott & Costello. He was a character actor who wore short pants with suspenders and had a big lolli pop. No more.... I'm sick & twisted!
TC-Loved the old movies...still do! Tarzan was one of my favorites! It wouldn't be Friday night without Sammy Terry and the Werewolf, Frank & Dracula...only the best right PT?
Loved your Grandson & Grandfather bit! It's amazing to think that kids these days have no idea what a dial telephone is. Tooooo tooo crazy!
Fly has left the blog.....
Flygirl where do you and Cappy stand on going to Hawaii? How did he do fishing in June down at the Keys? Does anyone know the date for Indy Echos get together? Ozzie and Harriett. I remembered one.
OMG, you guys are amazing. I can barely remember my name some days and others, I can't find my keys.
Sky King's neice was Penny and his nephew was Clipper.
I Led Three Lives was a good one for me.
Lawrence Welk, loved Bobby and Sissy.
then of course, there were my favorites
Fury
My Friend Flicka
Big Top Circus on Sat mornings
Locally I loved:
Popeye and Janie
Cowboy Bob, aka Cowboy Bob's Corral
or Chuckwagon Theatre with his horse Windjammer and his dog Tumbleweeds.
Club 4 for the dancing.

FLY has returned to the Blog!!
TC-We did very well in the Keys. Two Dogs played for a couple of days. It was rough for his visit...but we managed to fish with a hang-over and too little sleep...ha! Cappy & I caught lots of dolphin, ate too much, drank too much (Cappy only) and unfortunately had to return to reality. I think the TD duo had fun. I know that they ate lots of fish... Cap is returning in a couple of weeks to hang out and work on the boat. We'll go back in September after Labor Day for a fishing tournament...Want to Come?
I'm not sure about Hawaii. I hesitate because of Mom. But don't count me out yet. Maybe my sister will come visit with Mom while I go to Hawaii??? We'll see???
Tell Ms. TC HOWDY!!
FLY Again.
GH- Clipper! Right!!!!! You're sooooo smart! Oh, Richard Carlson was soooo handsome on I Led 3 Lives.
Alfred H. The Best! I've seen every one of those. Sunday nights with Alfred!
TC-Ozzie yeah, yeah with the irrassible Ricky!
PT-Don't stop...just keep on bookin' them! Ha! I know you can stop and you can stop anytime you want to....right????
Fly's over & out.
Fly: You're right x2, Sugar Pops (my brother loved em) and Smiley Burnett.
Joker: I wouldn't have remembered 'Buckshots" name, but that's for sure right.
I was very fortunate that I got to see Red Skelton live 2-3 times.
The first show was filled with music and Patriotic Marching Band Music that really stirred everyone and the monologue and characters were just really great. The amazing thing was that everything we heard from beginning to end, including his rendition of the "Pledge of Allegiance To The Flag" jokes, words spoken or sung, and all the music, Red had written and composed and scored himself. When I left the auditorium, I really felt humbled for the opportunity to have been there and seen him. He got as many laughs just getting ready to tell the jokes (as in folding his arms up to become Gertrude and Hecliff) as he did for the jokes. Characters that I recall, Clem, Freddie The Free-loader, The Old Man and The Parade, Mean Widdle Kid, Gertrude and Hecliff, and his western character Deadeye _____?? I remember him doing Deadeye with Bob Hope.
Hey, wasn't Sgt. Preston's dogs named King?
FLY: Gene Autry was in the parade but it was after'57'. I'm really irritated at myself because I was going to go to this years 500 parade and didn't. It turns out that 50 years later, the 1957 Grand Marshall was in this years 50th anniversary parade..........????
Wyatt Earp A.K.A. Hugh O'brien
If I recall "Stinkie" (gota love that name) filled in with the Three Stooges after Curley passed away; They called him Curley Joe.
PT: I'm with you, like alot of other things (mostly vices) in my life, 'I can quit this anytime I want to.......
I just have to want to.
OMG, how can we forget!
"Annie Oakley" with her brother Tag and her horse, Target.
and
"Lost In Space" where the robot would say "danger, Will Robinson"
Yes, Sgt Preston's dog was King and his horse was Rex
Red Skelton played "Sheriff Deadeye"
I am SO addicted. I'm starting "blog posters anonymous"
anyhow, I thought of 2 more:
F Troop
Laredo
and NO, I do not know any of the horses names! Ha!

A NEW BLOG RECORD!
Just wanted to fill you in on a secret that will comfort you when you realize you have mistaken Pat Brady for Pat Butram:
www.imdb.com/
(Internet Movie Database)
It's the site I go to when I'm trying to remember whether Smiley Burnette or Gabby Hayes was Boston Blackie's sidekick.
Poke around there. You can take many routes to find the answer that's drivin' you crazy...
Movie or TV show titles, actor's names, character's names, etc. There's even information on music in Movies or TV shows.
To get maximum benefit from IMDB you will need to register there, (it's free), but you can use the site and get good info. without registering.
I don't know what I'd do without it!
Kukla Fran and Ollie..
That really came from deep inside the ole brain.
Yea Golden Horse !!!!!!!
Those are the "little dudes" I was trying to remember. Wasn't Kukla the one with the funny tooth?
And since you came up with Kukla, Fran & Ollie it made me remember, wasn't the woman's name Sherry (something) that was with them?
And has "Name That Tune" been mentioned??
Also these weren't shows they were commercials. But does anyone remember the little Santa that would ride on a Razor - I think it was Gillett. They always had it at Christmas time.
And the Nestles one with the dog.
Here's one for ya. If you remember that commercial (and you all should) do you remember what the dog's name was. I KNOW !!!!!!!
Echo
ECHO glad to hear you're doing better.
N E S T L E S nestles makes the very best CHOC LET.
I KNOW TOO! But I'm not tellin.
Henry?
Echo - I think the Santa rode a Norelco razor....I always thought that looked like so much fun - HA! I have no idea what the NESTLE dog's name is.
Bo
Farful?
Spelling may be off.
And Sherry Lewis with Lamb Chop and Charley horse.
The dog on the Nestle commercial's name was Farfo. At least I think that is the spelling.
PT - Hey girl - Henry?????
And I loved your comments about Peyton Place. Aside from the TV show I got the paper back and ready it. I thought is was the most exciting book I had ever read. I mean back then it was really sexy. And Sammy Terry, I can't believe I didn't think of him. Use to watch it with my Dad and he would make us popcorn. Some of you girls may remember watching with him when you stayed all night. Then his pancakes the next morning, "when we finally rolled out of bed".
Thanks for the come backs on Kukla, Fran and Ollie. (GB) I had forgotten about Charley Horse. Didn't he have funny buck teeth????
Top Cat - Thanks for your thoughts. Shifty said he is looking forward to seeing you at the mini and making some (hunting plans). You guys have talked about getting together to hunt now for a couple of years or better. Would sure love to see you guys do it.
Ferdy - Hey girl - Every time the door bell rings now I am going to be expecting to see your smiling face. Seriously, give me a call and lets plan a time to get together.
Fly - Are you planning on being here for the Mini in October?? If so would love for you to come a day or two or three or four ahead of time. You could mop this
d _ _ _ _ kitchen floor that hasn't been mopped since (BEFORE) I got sick. Shifty has done (real good) at most things but you know the old saying, "I don't do windows" Well he DOESN'T do window and obviously NOT FLOORS EITHER. HAHA.
