but ask the right questions and you'll get it fairly quick.
Her "aka" is a household name.
Hints coming soon.
1st hint:
She got her big break in 1951.
She was married 4 times.
She's an actress and she's recognized everywhere.
2nd hint:
She was in Broadway musicals then later
became a TV actress in the early 50's, which was her
"claim to fame".
3rd hint:
Her initials at birth were: VRJ
later she changed her last name for show biz purposes.
Her TV co-star's initials were W.C.F.
and she did not like her co-star in real life.

The photo looks like one of the "Vamp" pics from the 20's.
Did she die recently?
You're right about what the photo "looks" like...I agree that it "looks" like that, but you're on the wrong track.
She died in the late 70's.
Everyone knows her, I'm positive of that.
Veronica Lake?
Gracie Allen
Of course you're looking at an earlier picture of her. When you see a more recent picture, you will recognize her instantly.
I've added my first hint on the post.
Shelley Winters?
Is she a U.S. Citizen?
Janet Leigh?
I think I got it now.
Ethel Merman.
Got her big break in 1951 when she won the Tony Award for Best Actress
This was a good puzzle!
She is a US citizen, born in the midwest (not IN.)
It is NOT Ethel Merman, or anyone else that has been mentioned so far.
The reason I've been kind of vague on the hints is because she is SO recognized, that I'm having trouble not giving it away so soon.
You're gonna be surprised.
I am stumped. I mean she doesn't seem to have those Bette Davis eyes or the Samantha (of Bewitched) nose.... who could it be? The suspense builds...
First and last initial the same?
OH, GB!!!!
I think you might have it. I'm posting my 3rd hint now.
Well W. C. Fields has to be the guy but as for the lady????
Vera Cruz?
Violet Coats
Venice Curtz
Vivian Crawford
Viola Crenshaw
Betty Boop?
Our Miss Brooks?
PT,
None of the above.
and of all that you mentioned probably none are as well known as this celeb (except for maybe Betty Boop)
Her co-star was jealous of her, and made her wear frumpy clothes to make her look heavier and hide her figure.
YEA!
GB, you are correct!!!!
It was her other co-star WCF that she did not like in real life, but you'd never know it by the way they acted together on TV.
PT,
WCF is not W.C. Fields
She was in a sitcom and also the first person ever to win a "best supporting actress" Emmy Award in 1953.
Picture her with a mouth full of chocolates.
After I had figured out it was Vivian Vance, I went lookin' for that picture and couldn't find it.
Joker, this was a REALLY neat one!
WHERE DID YOU FIND THE PIC?
I had to post the answer to a new posting because I was having too much trouble adding it on this one.
Anonymous,
see the new picture I posted as the answer.
GB,
OMG!! I searched the internet for hours and hours because I wanted to get a picture that NOBODY would recognize. Vivian Vance was not my first pick, but every other celebrity I chose, I could not find an unrecognizable picture.
That was a lot of fun.
I'm not sure what website I found the picture on, because I searched SO many sites. But if I come across it again, I'll let you all know.
