1960's "Wonderland" !

Before we came down to Destin this time we bought a "Sirius/XM" portable player. We later bought a dock to put it in so we could listen to it in the car AND in the condo.

This afternoon we were sitting out on the balcony watching "Lake Destin" gently lap against the shore, the sun warming us as we watched the world go by, and this tune played on "60's on 6".
I suspect it's been 40 years since I've heard the tune, maybe more.
Growing up, we had a radio-record player combination. I don't know exactly what transpired to make it happen... maybe my folks got a better piece of equipment, but they handed down that original machine to me. In my bedroom, I would turn it on as I was down for sleep and listen to either 1070 WIBC, (or if it was a late weekend, 890 WLS out of Chicago) until I fell asleep, and when I woke I'd find either Mom or Dad had turned it off. This tune is one of those I remember hearing come out of that box.

It played this afternoon and brought back memories from when we '65-er's were about 13 years old. I had to share it with you.
It may not have impacted you as it did me, but I'm sure you remember it...

Don't you?

Funny GB, I hadn't heard it in years either, But I KNEW it was wonderland by night. That wonderful sock-hop slow dance that you waited for and waited for . . . just to ask HER to dance and then when I got up enough courage to ask . . . . the song was over . . . . But the dance goes on. Funny how sometimes old habits are hard to break. Good day here, just got back from the barn. "JR" is good. Colts lost, but others (college) won, so overall, life is good today. Hope all of you had a good one too.

In the for what it's worth column, I just watched something on a Sunday evening network show, and it reminded me AGAIN why I don't watch that . . . . . Do they really think I am that stupid . . apparently so. . . It was still a good day, Thanks

P.S For those of you who remember him but are out of state, "Big John Gillis" of WIBC "Traffic Chooper" era passed away; he was 62, services were yesterday. I remember him from the airplane trip to Cleveland for the first colts playoff game . . .Quite a trip to say the least !! And that's another story ........

You didn't listen to WIFE, the good good guys?

Anonymous said...

Rita, absolutely, but WIFE was here and then gone, but it was a favorite station when it was around.

Rita, WIFE came on the scene about 1963 or so, when you were a glimmer in your Father's eye.
When this tune was popular, if you wanted to listen to "Top 40, News, Weather and Sports" you listened to either WIBC or WISH.
Remember Dick Summers, DJ?

Yes GB; as I remember he was almost in tears his last show here in Indy and said he didn't want to leave but couldn't not go, it was just too great an opportunity. (TV . . . what was his show?) I remember he went to a BIG radio ? station in Boston and had a very successful career. ? Am I remembering what I think I am remembering? I do remember Bouncin Bill Baker spinning records at Public School #35 just north of Manual H.S. when we lived in Indy, before we moved to the valley!!! I was too young to care about dancing but I do remember my sister trapping me and making me dance the Hop to the music of Danny and the Juniors "At The Hop" old 45 rpm record. That was at our old house on Delaware St. I have some pretty good memories from that old neighborhood too.

Do you think it would be a good idea if you visit Vandy's Kids to just take a moment and sign in (anonymous if you want) and say Hi! . . . And other Vandy's Kids would know you stopped by. Busy time of the year, but sometimes slowing down a little is a good thing. . . .

It's the reason I finally gave up on it, DJ.
Seems like it's you and me, with Rita pitching in once in a while.
I'm disappointed.

GB, hald surgery on rt eye yesterday and today is OPEN FRIDAY . . . . . What a deal, sooooon I will be able to see again almost like normal (an ever changing scale) so that makes it a Great Friday. Thanks again for the blog (GB and others who set it up) and, I was wonderig if Mr. L was out there. I knew you'd experienced your own eye issues, and at last report you were seeing the best you had seen in years (after last operation , few years ago). As we get a little longer in the tooth, simple things like being able to see, take on a new meaning. Hope all is well out there in everyone's world. By the way, what's going on in your world todat ?????

Thoughts and prayers go out to Dave W.

Not sure if Mr. L. is still lurking. If he doesn't respond soon DJ, I'll email and rattle his cage.

I have a student tomorrow (Saturday). Sunday morning we're headed back South for two weeks.
Open invitation time...
If you have the time, our door is always open there. The price of admission is to treat the owners to dinner now and then. (And we're not expensive to satisfy!)
