11th Week- The Fat Report

For me, dieting is an interesting challenge. It's all a matter of establishing a routine... getting out for our daily walk, and refusing to put things into the hole in my face.
I've now lost 12 pounds since 1 January.
It's not easy. The temptations are everywhere.
In one of the first posts I wrote at "Pitchpull" I discussed how food and drugs can be compared. I really wanta eat! I have a tin on the end table next to my recliner that Sara Jean keeps filled with a mixture of roasted peanuts and cashews.
When my stomach is growling loud enough to be heard across the room- (2.5 on the Richter scale), it would be the easiest thing in the world to empty that tin, one handful of nuts at a time.
Merchandisers are evil. Last night I went to get groceries... the first thing inside the door?
Krispy Kreme donuts... one of my worst opponents!
For me, the difference between success and failure at this venture is my ability to remember how drugs and food are really two peas in a pod... and I think back when Nancy Reagan started her anti-drug campaign for kids... "JUST SAY NO!"
Sure, it'd be easy to just put a handful of nuts in my mouth... no one would know the difference.
A dozen of those Krispy Kremes in my shopping cart, and I'd have been pouring an ice-cold glass of milk to go along with them when I got home. Ummm, ummm! And who would've known?
I would have. The scale would have shown it this morning. And my heart, my joints, and all the rest of my body would not be getting the benefits I promised myself with my New Year's resolution to me, and to you.
I'm now at the point where subtle hints at my success make me smile. Wearing blue jeans sans-belt last night while shopping, my pants were trying to slide over my hips. I need to fetch my belt from the closet and cinch up my trousers!
Here's the math, VK's-
12 pounds of fat melted, 6 to go.
The next 6 may be hard, but I'm gonna make it.
To those of you emailing with encouragement...Thank you!
It helps keep me disciplined!

Happy St. Patty's day, VK's!

Keep on keepin on! I bet you feel great with those pounds lost...you inspire me. We just had a new coffee shop open on the corner of Olive Branch and 135. Wonderful pastries, sandwiches with home made breads and Kona coffee from Hawaii. I could take my laptop and spend the day! I'm planning on going just get a cup of coffee and "JUST SAY NO" like you do, GB.

Happy St. Patrick's Day....top of the mornin' to ya and the rest of the day to me!

Congrats on the weight loss. You are doing great.
I sure know what you mean about all the temptations out there. Fudge browines are my all time weakness and to walk by without buying some is a horrible experience for me. I can turn down anything else, but brownies are the hardest.
Let, me tell you, the goodies they make on this island is amazing. each culture has their own speciality and I think we have tried the bigger part of them.

Great Weigh-In Report this week! Way to GO!

I too can give in to the Krispy Kreme Demon! My gas station has a big display...I NEVER pay inside; I can't afford the calories! I sometimes wonder just how many I could eat at one sitting? OMG! I've got to change the subject...right now!

Every time the Krispy Demon appears, you just remember how good it feels to have your pants slipping from your waist! Now that's an incentive!

Congrats on your 194 Level!

Good on ya, GB! You're going to have to buy new clothes soon, I just know it.

Speaking of something totally different but sort of related (what?)

Fly mentioned wondering how many Krispy Kremes she could eat. My brothers and cousins used to have contests to see how many White Castles they could eat. Then they would have disgusting contests on the way home (think about it,, bloated, gassy, little boys,, giggling in the back seat. What little creepazoids! ;)

Anyway, has anyone else seen the movie White Castles? It is WAY past funny. At the last, they finally get to eat their WCs ,,, about 30 of them. Now, that's gotta hurt!

I was about 35 and was on my way to the airport after a visit to Mother's. All of a sudden, I just knew I couldn't leave Indy without a WC or two. So I detoured and made an FAST stop. Those sliders were the best I'd ever tasted.

However, I think there is an age cut-off for WCs and I think 35 is it. Man they hurt later,,, especially when we reached altitude, I thought I was gonna die. I was wishing for death as I recall.

Haven't had a WC since but sure have found memories of them,,, some painful memories too.
In contrast, I’ve only had one Krispy Kream and it was so sweet my teeth hurt for a week! Haven’t been back to KK’s.

Too bad about all the other high calorie stuff that I DO like. ;))

Just remember classmates...you are not fat until you can pinch the skin on your forehead.

You just tried it, didn't ya??

PT, I remember the eating contest with White Castles. I could do 6 of them and was proud of it.
When my better half and I went to Indy the first time, when we got married, I took him in for some and ordered 6, he had no idea how small they were and was beginning to wonder what kind of a woman he had married that could eat 6 burgers at a time.
I saw that movie, it was so funny.

When I was living in Colorado , I had to fly to Indy and on the way home I had called and asked the family in Co. what they wanted me to bring them. You guessed it. White Castles and Shapiros Deli up on S. Merdian St.
I put all of that food in this big duffle bad and took it on the plane. After a bit the aroma was permeating through out the whole flight and was driving everyone crazy. I just sat there like I knew nothing. I was afraid the hoards would attack and eat it all.
Never did that again.

White Castle Stories!
GH will love this, since she has such fond memories my bro. He was about 11 or 12 when Dad decided that he'd let Sam eat all the WC's he wanted. OMG! I really cannot remember how many he poked down; but I know that Daddy made a second trip back in to buy another sack. I shall never forget the sight and smell of what came out of Sam's mouth and into the back seat of the car about 30 minutes after the big gorge & glut. Ha! Oddly enough, Sam still craves WC's. But they always destroy his digestive system...will he ever learn his lesson?

PT's correct about the cut-off age for consuming WC's...35 is the magic number. I think I'll just try to remember the aroma and warmth of the sacks. The little cartons are so cute though...I loved playing with them as a child, regardless of the smell of 3-day old WC's!

These WC airline stories are way too funny for me. I think I've worked flights with WC passengers aboard, but never to the extent of GH's road food to Colorado! WC's and Shapiro's together? OMG LOL
Good thing GH is so cute and innocent looking...talk about my "candles alibis" at the SSS Incident! I can't hold a candle to this road-food escapade of hers!

I've not seen the WC movie! Where have I been? I'm getting it next week...maybe it's on VOD? Gotta see it! Thanks for the laughs!

Okay I can remember when White Castles were 6 cents, can anyone go further back than that??
I still eat them when I can and once in awhile we can get them here frozen. Yummy. We split a box of 6 and think we have died and gone to heaven.
And Steak and Shake, that is another place I have to go to when in Indy. They used to be so good.
They finally opened a New York Deli here and it is fabulous. The cheesecake in about 10 inches tall.
I just loved the Sam story, I can see him doing that so plainly.
Well, after all this food talk, I think I need to go ride my bike. I just gained two pounds.

GH - WC's costs? OMG I can't remember what they cost! Six cents each! WOW! Such a memory you have!

Oh, oh, Steak & Shake! Still my favorite. It's the only place I'll eat a hamburger! And their chili three-ways is the best - it's a cure all for whatever ails you. I'll admit to many a Sunday morning (not very early) in the parking lot of the Steak & shake gobbling my "hang over cure" of chili three ways & a big, icy coke! Fixed me right up and made me human again! Love S&S and thank God they're in SRQ!

I guess I've gained 5 lbs yaking & reading about food today...ha! O'kay, it's back to oatmeal yogurt and the thinking thin mantra tomorrow for me.

Steak and Shake...can't beat it! I think the devil must have got me last week because I ate lunch at Steak & Shake two times. Loved every delicious bite of my cheeseburger, fries and vanilla coke. But if you would stick my leg with a needle grease would shoot across the room; it's o.k. gotta get your grease occasionally. It's good for the joints.

I am so happy you got your S & S fix this week. I do envy you.
I hope you enjoyed the baked beans also. Oh, I can taste them from here. But you gotta have the best joints in town. lol.

Chili three ways uh?? Thanks goodness I never needed to try that as a hangover cure with my pristine life ya know. Just don't ask TD about my partying life.
We both would have to plead the 5th on that.

Flygirl said...

The good thing is that my party life is basically over. I don't have enough days & nights left in life to waste them with hang overs! Plus, I've discovered that I have just as much fun sober...and I can remember everything. Well, almost everything considering my age and state of mind???

Ah...Those were the Days!

I'd rather eat at S&S without feeding a hang over anyway.

I'll have to get the skinny from TD regarding your party days? TD are you out there?? Ha!
