Earth Quake

I'm sure we will all have many stories to tell about todays quake.
I was setting at my computer working when the earth quake hit. I've lived in CA. and have been through several so I knew what it was. No matter how many times you've been in a quake, its very frightening. My daughter in law came flying downstairs, first quake she had been in. Needless to say she didn't know what was going on, she thought she had been possessed with the shaking of her bed.
I called my brother who lives in Moorseville. He had just let his cat inside and went back to bed. He felt the shaking start and thought he had let in a racoon or something worse in stead of his cat. He stood up on his bed, grabbed his shoes and jumped about 5 1/2' to the hall. He ran down stairs to get something to kill it. After seeing the cat walk out from under the bed, he started to realize that it may have been a quake.
I have a Labrador and he was very restless last night and early this morning when I got up around 3 AM. My neighbors dog barked all night, which was very unusual. Guess I'll start paying more attention to my animals around me from now on. I think they have senses that warn them in advance.

Tired from flying two flights, I had been asleep at the hangar for about half an hour. At first, with the creaking of the metal building, I thought a sudden storm had blown up, then realized the storm wouldn't shake the bed that way.
The phone started ringing with managers wanting to make sure all was well. Oh well, I really didn't want to get a nap anyway... coffee time.

Dog-tired at home I got horizontal pretty quickly. At 10:15 the waterbed got whitecaps. The aftershock felt stronger than the original trembling, I suppose because home is 35 miles closer to the epicenter.

We have mild quakes in the 4 range with some regularity here. Knowing our proximity to the New Madrid fault I bought quake insurance when we first bought a home. No damage so far, thank God, but it's a good reminder...
Do you have quake insurance? If not, you need to do some refresher reading on the New Madrid shaker of 1812, then get yourself on the phone to your insurance agent... quake insurance costs pennies.

Did the earth shake??? Senses must be totally gone.. Didn't feel a thing. Oh well, not the first time!

GB, by all accounts, the epicenter was close by, wasn't it? After looking around; any damage?

Ferdy and TC, Hope everything is fine. Ferdy, We'll miss seeing you again. But, certainly understand. Congrats to your daughter! And to You....

DJ, Hoping that you would make it to Destin this year.. But, looking forward to seeing you next week.. Whoever gets there first - hold a big table. My best guess is 16+/-. May have to be a grouping of tables.

(Boy, "Blogger" is acting weird tonight! This is my second attempt to publish this comment.)

We're 82 miles from the epicenter by my measurements TD, so Ferdy and TC and Sharon were much closer... less than 40 miles if I'm right. Hopefully their worst damage was to their peace and quiet.

Ferd, sorry we'll miss you at the banquet. You've done a pretty decent job of avoiding us the last few gatherings... was it the OJ incident that got to ya?
(And let me caution the rest of you... 16 of us in one place at this banquet will be a sore temptation for a repeat of that fiasco. PLEASE try to be on your best behavior! Let's not embarrass our schoolmates, and former teachers, okay?!

Effie, we're headed home!

I admit I'm getting older and my memory isn't what it use to be. I can't think of what the OJ incident is. Please refresh my memory. Different things have come up that have prevented me from attening the reunions. My granddaughter's birthday is October 26. So, that usually ties in with the fall reunion. I really enjoyed the reunion at Echo and Shifty's. I'm hoping to make this year. If the alumni banquet was in June, I would have made that. I just don't want to miss seeing Sara get her award that she has worked so hard to earn. Hope every one has a good time Saturday night. Please, every one give every one else a hug for me.

Ferd-
You do realize I'm taking advantage of faulty memories here, don't ya? ;>)
Sorry you can't make it, but you have no choice here... go, be proud of your kid, then come here to share the experience with us, please.
We'll be thinkin' of you.

Yes it was scary for a minute. Woke me up and the bed was shaking and a rumble sounded like a tornado thought the roof was coming off. Jumped up and ran to the back door and no wind so went down stairs to check the furnace then realized it had to be an earthquake. Had Sharon turn TV on and sure enough. Everything fine here house OK. Ferdy congratulations to you and your daughter. See alot of you Sat. evening. Can't wait.
