June Flood

I hope everyone survived the floods with no major damages. We set very high, so if we start getting flood waters in our place, time to build another Noah's Ark.

I was in Greenwood yesterday to attend a graduation party. Originally it was to be a the Westside Park. Received a call that Westside was under water and most of Old Town Park was, but the shelter was dry. We met there and here are a couple of pictures I took of both parks. The other pictures are of my creek in back and my nephew in his boat in front of his house. He lives in Wakefield on Smith Valley Road. These are minor compared to further south.

One of my daughters lives in a subdivision at Peterman and Fairview - close to Hawkeye and Hot Lips. She had come home (southern Indiana) on Thursday. She left here Saturday morning around 10:00. She got to Bloomington and her husband called her and told her to turn around and come back here. Did she listen? No! When she got to Martinsville she had to take 39 to 67 to Mooresville. She drove through some water; but, she said other vehicles were going through it too. By the time she got home, she was pretty upset. Did this ever happen when we were kids? I don't remember it ever flooding like this.

Thanks Carol for the post, and thank you Ferd for your comment. I too cannot remember a time during our growin'-up years when anything similar happened. A Hoosier cousin emailed and said she is hearing this year likened to 1913 when all of Southern Indiana had serious flooding problems. She says there are good pictures at the Indy Star website of the 1913 flood. I haven't yet gone to look, but will post a link there when I do unless someone beats me to the punch. (And please do!)

I'm fearful of problems in the coming days here. We have already had almost a year's worth of rain. The Mississippi, Missouri, and Illinois river valleys are mostly covered with water, precluding farmers from doing their normal, risky planting there and indicating further flooding will be big trouble. It continues to rain pretty heavily to our North. Shades of '93?
I hope not.

Sharons sister Linda lives in Bluff Acres which is at 37 and Smith Valley road. About 70 houses in the addition. They had 2 feet of water in there house with no flood insurance. Will cost about $60,000 to fix. They also had a Boxter Porche in the garage and a Mercedes, and truck in the driveway. The three are totaled. Sharon and I got to the farm Fathers day and had to take detours to finally get there. Bridges are out all over the place. Will take months to get repaired. Sharon and I just got back from a week in Colorado. Had a ball went four wheeling in the mountains and trout fishing. Caught lots of fish and Granny held her own in the mountains on her four wheeler. She has a Grizzly 660. I have to get ready for three days of golf this week in a tournment then next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in Iowa for golf. then Indy Friday and Sat. for golf. Then Sunday drive to New York for smallmouth bass fishing and golf tornment Monday. Get back Wed. night then Friday,Sat., Sunday at the farm for the 4th weekend. Work is really tough.

I feel so sorry for you having to put so much time in with your work. You should try to work less and take some time for just a little R & R. Your handicap must be right along there with Tiger's?

What will we possible do when retirement time comes?
