July 18- Friday Forum

Yeah, another song I've sung at the top of my lungs... to the great embarrassment of a certain friend and VK, I think.
Admit it... you sang it too. Probably better than me though.

I have good news, and maybe referring to my good news will beat the bushes so you can share in it... I heard from "the lost classmate"!
As John Daly used to say... "Lost classmate, enter and sign in, please!"
(Watch comments to this post.)

TGIF... It's Friday, so it's also time to pipe up. Got anything to share with us?

Question of the Day:

How old would you be, if you didn't know how old you are?

Greybeard said...

More information, GH-
Are we talking about gettin' outta bed in the morning, mid-day, or just before we go to bed in the evening?

Glad to hear that our own 'Long Lost' is not lost again. I wish her well in the not too distant future. A little place in the hills of KY/Tenn or NC/SC over looking a lake sounds like 'just the ticket' to me. Just chillin to the sounds of the breeze rustling thru the treetops. Maybe even with a bottle of Nassau Royale hidden in the kitchen cabinet - for those long hot summer nights when the breeze is still. And when the lake gets too small, You can always spend some time fishing for dolphin and visiting old friends in the Keys!

Now - how old would I be, if I didn't know how old I am?? Well, since I am about to turn 62 - thats how old I would be! Even if I did not know how old I was - fact is, I would still be 62... Now if that is not what you are looking for here, I'm sorry! If the question is - What age would I like to be - well, I guess 62 is still a good answer for me.

For me, It seems to be a good age. Lots of questions, though. I am seeing inflation creeping - no, actually - bounding onto the scene. And it is a little scary. Will we have enough in retirement? What is enough? To last how long?

******* NOTE *******

This not intended to be political rhetoric. Though, many of us are asking ourselves these same questions, I'm sure. To those that are not aware of our VK site - Please do not politicize it.

What Can I Say? I'M BAAACCCKKKK!
The Fly has returned with a "shame on me" look on my face!

Thanks to GB & TD, etal. for their concern and inspiring words of wisdom... lots of pot holes in life these days. But I've ordered a dump truck full of asphalt. I'd rather shovel asphalt than what I've been shoveling these past months...enough!

HERMAN'S HERMITS!!!! I LOVED THEM! AND I LOVED MRS. BROWN!!!!

I sang it very loudly and probably very off key. It's amazing how skinny "Herman" looks in the video! I guess we were all skinnier back then...won't go there!

Sure hope all the VK's are doing well, even though the stock market sucks! Just checked one of last month's statements: OMG! Guess I'll stay at Resort Prision a little longer...let's hope things calm down soon. It is very scary out there...oooohhhh!

No way I can catch up on all the past blog news. One thing though - who the heck is the "mystery girl"? Two sisters with the same first name initial? With this info, I can feel back in the blog!

Hope you're all having a wonderful summer. It's hotter than blazes in FL, but we finally got some rain. I know, I know...don't talk rain. I did see that Johnson County made the national news with their floods. And I got some photos emailed to me. What a mess!

This is some news: If you don't live in Paradise, you probably aren't aware of the home owner's insurance situtation down here. It's a real disaster, and State Farm has finall caught up with HB & Fly. As of October we're cancelled. We live too close to the Gulf of Mexico, and they aren't interested in insuring a house built in 1928!

I've never wished for a hurricane to hit us...but I'm considering getting a Hurricane Mo-Jo working out. But it must hit only my house and before October 2nd. If I can't get the Mo-Jo to work, we'll pay off the mortgage and forget homeowner's insurance...and get a new Mo-Jo for NO HURRICANES!!

Some call it Paradise down here; trust me; just visit don't move for good.

That's my Friday Night Focus on Life.

Great to be back in the blog. Now, if I can remember my passwords, etc. so I can post under my name #*&%&^(!

FLY again...sorry!

Answering GH's original query:
How old would I be???? I'd be 17 and it would be 1965! I'd do it all over again! Mostly the same, but some differences because I'd be so much smarter. You do get to keep your memory? Right? Gotta keep all that I've learned or I wouldn't go back.

Yeah, 1965!

Fly Again:

Thanks for the memory TD...Love that Nassau Royale!

Hope to have an adventure in KY, TN, NC & SC this Fall! I'd be keeping that bottle of Nassau Royale in the Freezer...not the kitchen cabinet! More likely clenched tightly in my hand...who needs a glass! Visitors will get their own bottle!

Missed you guys bunches in the Keys. Everybody ask where you were and sorry you didn't make it this year. They're expecting you next time around. Captain Pete's first mate (Judy) still hasn't recovered from her Nassau Royale Adventure last year! Flip Night at the OV was not up to par this year...Mia says Hey!

I still LOVE that song! I cranked up the volume, sang along and annoyed Clint as much as possible. I thought the same thing as Fly, look at Herman's skinny legs. Remember "Birdlegs" by the way??

Great to hear from Fly, I've been thinking of you and hoping you were a.o.k.

Well now I feel left out...what is this Nassau Royale: I'm thinkin' I could use some. Even though a 17 year-old shouldn't drink....it would get ugly early.

Fly:

So good to hear from you again. Welcome back.
And to answer your question, yes you get to keep your memory.
When I first read the question, I just skimmed over it, then I went back and absorbed it. Thought it a very thought provoking one indeed.
I would be 21(cause that is how I act) and "Livin La Vida Loca life on some beach in Mexico.
A lot of things would be different this time around.

Now: does anyone know who asked that question originally?

Bo:
Just for you, I went out and bought a watermelon tonight and it was very good. Locally grown and seedless.

Greybeard said...

Nassau Royale...
I cheated!
And Fly... it's wonderful to have you back in the fold and know that you are well enough to Bi... er, state your complaints.
Don't stay away so long. We miss and worry about you.

GH,
Great to hear you got a watermelon, the seedless are a great invention but you can't have seed spitting contests. We wouldn't do that though would we...? Not ladylike and all that.

I've got a dental appointment today for cleaning. I do still have three or four teeth that the dentist takes good care of. Don't like to go, you can't trust those guys with sharp pointed instruments in your mouth. Ooops! That could sound pretty nasty if taken wrong couldn't it? I'll shut up for today.

Fly great to hear from you. Missed you in Destin this year. Evansville watermelons and canteloupes are great. They call them Posey County melons but 80% are grown in Gibson County. We are currently in the peak season and shipping big boxes to the fields. They actually have a big watermelon convention every year. Last year in Gulf Shores Al. They have melon queens. I'm always offering to be the melon judge. I'm sure GB & TD would be great judges also. Fly hope you and Cappy are well. I would like to get down next year with TD's and Cinders to do some fishing with Cappy. Let me know what week that is so I can get in my calander.See you all later got to get to the golf course.

GH, TD, GB, BO & TC: THANKS FOR THE HELLO'S, GOOD WISHES & WELCOME BACK'S! VK's Really Rock!

HB's favorite food is Watermelon! He's available to judge those Gulf Shores, Alabama Melons too! TC, keep the Captain in mind, if you get called to be a Melon Judge!

There's competition though; Arcadia, FL has an annual Watermelon Festival too. This not-to-be-missed event takes place just a short 25 miles east of lovely Sarasota, FL. They had to discontinue the "seed spitting" contest...not enough teeth to really have a fair competition. And as for a Melon Queen...I won't go there! But there's lots of watermelons, country music, pick-ups & domestic disturbances at the Arcadia Park. Also, don't miss the Arcadia Rodeo!

We go to Islamorada fishing for 2 weeks after the Memorial Day holiday. So it begins that first Friday after Memorial Day weekend...never be in the Keys during a holiday! So come on down for some dolphin fishing next year. We stay at the Drop Anchor Resort...not fancy, but fishing friendly. I might try to find a house to rent for a month and go back & forth. Don't know if I can find one with docks & direct Atlantic access.

BO: NASSAU ROYAL: a very smoothe but powerful, rather sweet liquor made for "shooting"! It should have a warning printed on the lable: "will slip up behind you and knock you on your a _ _ !" Ha! I highly recommend it for special occassions or any occassion!

Hey, I've discovered what causes my memory lapses. I've been diagnosed with Bo-Maritis. You should have a blood test and MRI; you could be the next victim. Do you suffer from...what was I saying? Oh well...

GH: I don't know who originally ask that question...was it Barbara Walters? No, that was: "what kind of tree would you be"...ha. Love Katherine H.

But 21 sounds like a good age and La Vida Loca...my kind of Vida!!! I'm with you on that Mexican Beach..hey, I speak pretty good espanola, chica. Take me with you!

I've gone on too long. You'll be wishing I'd disappear again.

Love 'Yall

Fly,

You are still a hoot and pleasant to read.
The original person that asked that question was actually Satchel Paige.
Your watermelon celebrations sound like lots for fun. I can't eat enough of the stuff.

You speak of something called Nassau Royal, that's not like the peach brandy from your parents cabinet is it?
It sounds like it hits you like Lemon Cello does. A little goes a long way.

Anyway, welcome back and don't be a stranger.

Answering the age question-
I think Sara Jean would say I'd be about 8. She'll tell ya, and unfortunately it's true...
I still think belching and farting is funny. Louder and longer is better.

Fly, TD, GB, GH, & TC,

YOU WON'T BELIEVE THIS....I JUST SAW THE "MELON QUEEN IN KROGER THIS AFTERNOON! SHE HAD ON HER CROWN, SASH AND EVERYTHING....BOY YOU GUYS REALLY MISSED IT. WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT SHE WOULD BE IN GREENWOOD???

Bo

Greybeard said...

Pictures Bo, PICTURES!
We need to see the Queen, AND her melons!

the golden horse said...

Did you get her autograph there Bo? We need proof there really is a melon queen.
I am so envious of you. Gosh, a melon queen, where does it end?

the golden horse said...

GB
I was going to give you 12, I think you underestimate yourself.

FLY Here!

I just finished off the final quarter of HB's latest water melon. Trash day tomorrow and gotta get those rinds moved to the dump as quickly as possible.

Bo, you've had a Queen siting? Right there in Greenwood...OMG! GB's right; we need pictures. Get back to Kroger and remember to have your camera-phone ready to shoot. You've got a mission girl!

GH, you've met Lemon Cello? Oh, how I love that stuff. Have you ever had it "home made"? If not, you gotta find some crazy Italian family that brews it in their basement or garage. Big difference! But I'll take the commercially made any day! Nassau Royale is real close to the Cello. Both are smooth, and close to the good old Peach Brandy from my Mom & Dad's freezer...ha! You are too funny.

By the way, also very sorry that HB and I could not make the Great Hawiian Adventure. I would have loved seeing you...Hawaii would be fun to see again; but the real treat for me would have been getting to see you! We gotta try to figure out some mid-point to meet. We'll have to work on that.

TC, did I wish you a happy birthday? I did in a comment last night under the "Blend" post. But something happened to my comment; got blown away, I guess. It was probably too long and windy!

So Happy Birthday! And I hope Ms TC did not murder you in your sleep... hopefully, you did not mention "Social Security" to her. Life's too short. Don't take chances like that!

GB, I didn't realize that you were such a Belcher & Farter? You continue to amaze us all. Oh, Sara Jean, how do you put up with it? GB, you are a lucky fellow!

I'm outta here and Happy Trails to All!

the golden horse said...

Fly,

Yeah I remember a few of your stories of the Peach Brandy.
Matter of fact I have a bottle of Lemon Cello in the freezer now from our trip in Dec. Seems like everywhere we went, someone put a glass of it in our hands. A little goes a long way. I haven't had any of the homemade stuff, but I think I would be scared.
Wish you could have made it here also, but we will all meet again one of these days.
I have one more little slice of watermelon I have been savoring, but tomorrow, it is gone.

GB,
I know, I should have had my camera..I usually do just in case I want a quick pic of the canned goods section. By the way, the Queen was demonstating to ladies gathered around (NO MEN!) how to choose a ripe melon. She was pressing on the melons with her fingers.....I decided to make a quick exit before I started laughing.....couldn't take it!

Now Fly,
Does HB realize how much you love watermelon? I seem to remember you and dad eating melon faster than we could cut the things in half! Beware HB, Fly can get dangerous if you come between her and a watermelon.

FLY HERE!

GH-I admit that I've outgrown Peach Brandy...but Lemon Cello, I'll love it forever. Here's another Italian Home-Brew to try: Grappe! I might have this spelled wrong? This is the Italian version of Good 'Ole USA Moonshine! It's usually homemade, but some Italian bars & restaurants have it. If you ever get a change to try it, don't pass it up! Beware of sampling more than one small glass. And it does taste pretty good.

I'm really not a lush or alcholic. I hardly ever drink any more. The only time I ever get to be a "bad girl" is my annual Keys Fishng Trip. I can always crawl or walk back to the Drop Anchor after a couple of elbow bends. It only takes a couple to get to me...just ask Mr & Ms TD. I'm a very cheap "happy person".

And we will see each other again soon! Hey, do you have a web cam?

BO-I do remember those sweet, Indiana watermelon's in your back yard! I can still see Harold with that glistening chin and big smile. I can even hear that crack of the first opening of those melons! That's the true test of a watermelon: the "crack". You'd know immediately if it was a "good" one. Florida melons are not so good. No matter how much thumping I perform, it's always a mystery melon down here.

They grow them in Arcadia and have a Watermelon Fest. But it can't hold a candle to the Indiana Melon Queen and her Melons! I don't think Arcadia has a real Queen? But they do have a rodeo every fall...usually the hottest day of the year. I'm going to check out the Arcadia Queens and report back to all.

As far as coming between me & my melon...HB has me beat hands down! No Way do I try to wallow his watermelons from the frig. It would break his heart. He really does take his melons serious! I don't even cut them! I take the back seat to his melon lusting...ha!

the golden horse said...

Fly,

Yeah, the ole Grappe drink. Better half tried it in Italy in Dec., I wasn't brave enough. He liked it, but said it was a strong one.
The locals have no problem with it.
Melons, I love melons, I buy them often here, but alas, there is no melon queen here like Bo has there.

If hubby would hook it up, I do have a camera.

Your Drop Anchor Inn sounds like a great little place. When we lived in Ft. Myers Beach, we always intended to go down there, but never did. That was one regret.
We did go to the Everglades and ride a airboat and a swamp buggy and had a ball. Our airboat driver had a horrible hangover and a headache to match and he finally had to stop and buy some aspirin.
