Friday, With Sprinkles!

It's our normal "bellyache if you want" Friday post, but this time I'll relay news we can all celebrate-

Sunday, 25 January is a big day for some folks we love...
In alphabetical order, Mr. and Mrs. Hawkeye, and Mr. and Mrs. TwoDogs are celebrating the 40th(?) anniversary of saying their wedding vows.

Forty years!
How is it you gals put up with these guys that long?
I have no trouble at all remembering their anniversaries... can you guess why? ;>)

Congratulations to the four of you.
Have yourself a wonderful day!

I guess good news is she starts drawing Social Security in April. She won't know what to do with all the extra money. I told her I could go on more hunting and fishing trips. That went over like a fart in a whirlwind. Hope everyone doing well all take care.

Cissy Apple,

This morning I went to your blog and see that you're from Loogootee. How long have you lived there? I've been in Ferdinand 33 years.

Congratulations to the Brides and Grooms! I was an "Old Maid"; we celebrated our 36th in December.

Congrats to all, but it does mean you are all getting older.

Anonymous,
If you consider the alternative, ........,,,,,,,
OLDER is GOOD!

Very true. Old is not a bad thing.

Ferdy, I've lived in Loogootee all of my married life--36 years. My mom was born and raised here; so as my husband. My husband has worked in Jasper for 31 years--I worked in Jasper for 12 years, and worked with a guy from Ferdinand.

Ferdy Flyer is a restaurant there, isn't it?

Anonymous said...

Cissy Apple, you're right about the Ferdy Flyer. I believe the Ferdy Flyer was a train that ran from Ferdinand to Huntingburg years ago.

Who do you know in Ferdinand? I worked in Jasper for several years; but, most of my working experience was in Huntingburg. Do you by any chance know any Lingenfelters or Seals from Loogootee?

Ferdy

Cissy Apple said...

I worked with Jeff Hassfurther, who was young enough to be my son. I think his family was in construction or masonry. Heck of a wonderful guy. I've probably worked with a few more from Ferdinand, but didn't know they were from Ferdinand.

Yes, I know Lingenfelters and know of some Seals. My daughter graduated with Shawna L. and Carrie Lingenfelter. Carrie's dad is Ed; Shawna's is Richard.

Congrats to all also. Mrs Bob White and I will celebrate 41 years in March. I think you are right DAR, it's a wonder some of the ladies have 'put up' with some of us that many years. As for Me I'm glad they have and did! Looking forward to our 50th. and more.
Mrs F [school secretary] was lucky to get 67 years. We should be so lucky.

Cissy Apple, I worked with Becky L. Her husband is Dave and I think he is Richard's brother. I know some Hassfurthers - not sure about Jeff. Does this make you and me unrelated?! LOL

How did you meet your husband if you grew up in the valley? Were you visiting some of your relatives in Loogootee? That's sort of how I met my husband. I was visiting relatives in Pike County where my parents grew up.

Dave was one of my husband's Little Leaguers! I never knew Becky except through email when I input requisitions at Crane and she was a bankcard purchaser. Now I see them both whenever my neighbor has a get-together. I really like both of them. Leroy and Dave get along famously.

Yes, as a teen I used to do a lot of running around in Loogootee with my cousin. Leroy followed me home from the store one night. Nowadays they have laws against stalking!

Sounds like we have a lot in common - the valley, parents from southern Indiana, marrying men from southern Indiana and having Becky as a friend. When you see her the next time, tell her I said "Hello". We worked together at Donan Engineering in Jasper. She was a great friend. Her daughter is a year or so younger than my youngest daughter. Cassie spent the night at my house a couple of times. The girls got along real well. I wish Becky and I lived closer to each other so we could visit more.

Do you have snow and ice there? I'm sure you do. We have plenty of it here!

Sara Jean just called. She's at her first workplace of the day... couldn't make it completely up the driveway and is now worried about trying to re-enter the U.S. Highway at the end of the drive. We have an inch of sleet/snow on the ground here with very light snow continuing to fall... another inch or so more expected accumulation. Before she left this morning she said, "Another benefit or retirement... we won't have to worry about driving in this stuff."
Are you smiling while watching from your picture window, Ferd?

Anonymous said...

Not only am I smiling; but, I'm wearing PJ's to be more comfy! I took my shower and decided there was no point in getting dressed because I won't have any company today any how. Miss Ellie (my cat)and I are having a very leisure day just keeping warm.

Hope every one stays safe. Tell Sara Jean "Hello" for me.

Ferdy

For those in Central Indiana, watch the snow totals. A total of 6-12 inches is possible by Wednesday morning.

Cissy Apple said...

I'll pass the word, Ferdy. Yep, it's terrible in Loogootee. Yesterday, we had gotten more than the Jasper area, but I imagine it's evened out by now. We've had probably 18 hours of non-stop freezing rain/sleet--kind of a combination of the two. Now it's turned to snow, which is better than the icy stuff.

My daughter lives in Evansville. Their electricity went out around 2:30am their time. Trees and power lines are falling right and left, and transformers are blowing. Cell phone service is "iffy" due to ice on the towers. It'll be days before the juice is back on.

Another day I can't go to work. The base I work at has been put on a four-hour delay, with only essential personnel to come to work. I expect to hear at 9am that's it's been closed.

At least this gives me time to work on my blog.

Keep warm, all.

12.5" of the white stuff on the ground at my place. Been out since 0900hrs. trying to clear my drive. It will be a long night! Cinders is still in Fla.. She is helping her Mother get a new house ready to move into. She say "Up at dawn, working until dark every day." Her Mother will be ready for her to go home. Ha... Extended her stay until the 10th of Feb. Can't really blame her... She is out of the bad weather here, working hard, but enjoying her family & the sunshine. Did Sara Jean make it home OK? Hope everyone stays safe and sound....

All safe, TD.
Go read Pitchpull for further adventures.
Good to hear Cinders is safe and enjoying life. Tell her we love her and want her home.

Cissy where does your daughter live in Evansville. Sharon and I live between Newburgh and Boonville. I work at TempleInland in Evansville. Sharon's maiden name was Riggs. She lived in the Valley for a while. I came to CG my Freshman year and lived in Mt. Pleasant. T.D.'s and G.B. I have a fishing trip set up in July up in Canada. Were doing a fly in to one of the lakes. Rick Coffey and Bob Dillow going to be on the trip also. I see Bob quite a bit in Evansville where he lives. Also weather bad here powers been out since 3Am Wednesday morning. Been sleeping in the recliners by a gas fireplace staying about 64 in the living room the rest of the house down to 44 now. Hope we get power soon they say could be out 2 to 4 more days. Crews coming in from Michigan to help out still have about 60,000 without power. Winter will surely be over soon. I keep telling Sharon we need to run down to Florida and buy a winter place. The older I get the cold sucks.Everyone take care.

Top Cat, I have two extra bedrooms with three empty beds. You and Sharon are more than welcome to come here. I'd love to have the company. The roads here in town are pretty clear; but, I haven't gone out yet.

TC, she has a Newburgh address, but she lives just off 164. So it doesn't feel like Newburgh--it feels like E'ville. Compared to the tornado that completely destroyed their house--with them in it--losing electricity and heat is no big deal (at least not in my opinion).

Rick Coffey? I sure know that name!

Unknown said...

Cissy: I thought the name sounded familiar too, but can't place it.

Top Cat said...

Rick graduated in I believe 67 or 68. Played basketball for CG then went to University of Evansville. They won the Division 2 NCAA championship his Senior year. Don Buse, and Steve Welmer were on that team also. Buse played for the Pacers and Wellmer still officiates Division one games. Bob Dillow graduated with Rick at CG. He also went to the University of Evansville. The tornado was bad. I went to the new church that got hit and we had to redo and we got in about six months later. Glad your daughter made it through safe.

Cissy Apple said...

TC: I watched Rick play basketball for a year or two before he graduated. He had a sister maybe a year older than me, but I heard she died of brain cancer during a pregnancy--don't know if that's true or not.
My daugther and son-in-law (and granddog) came out without a scratch, which is amazing considering what their house looked like. If they had been in bed, they wouldn't have made it. The only thing that survived on the upper two levels of their trilevel was one little bedroom closet. She did have post-traumatic stress for quite a few months afterwards. But they were lucky. A lot of people didn't make it or were seriously injured.

Two Dogs, Harry & I will be married 43 years in May. Harry's birthday was January 28 so that's another Jan. event.
We had a cold front come through here Thursday. The low got down to 35, but the high today was 64 bright and sunny. Come on down.
