The Treadmill

Vacations?

Yeah, well, sorta.
We went to L.A. a few weeks ago to visit our son. He worked 4 of the five days we were there and we actually went to work (and worked!) with him so we'd have more time together...
And we came home more tired than before we went.

Eufaula.
Wonderful. Great memories.
But it was one of those "different bed, different surroundings" situations.
I didn't get a full eight hours sleep in the four nights we were there...
And we came home more tired than before we went.

By the time you read this I'm hoping Lucy, Yogi, Sara Jean and I will be most of the way to Destin.
We'll be sleeping in a bed of OUR choosing there and it's mighty comfortable.
The bedroom is removed from the "activity area" and is quiet.
We're in our "second home" there and are perfectly comfortable.
We'll be there 10 days and I can promise you... we'll come home rested but sorry we have to leave.
Got time to head South? Come on down... all are welcome.

I know someone who has GREAT news and will no doubt share it when the time is right.
It's prom time, graduation time, planting time, mushroom gathering time.
I know you have stuff to share with us.
So do it.
Now.

I wrote this before news started trickling in that we'll have oil on our beaches within 72 hours or so. I'm heartbroken. I cannot imagine the overall impact of this spill...
If they don't get it under control quickly it will affect the Gulf of Mexico as a whole. Think of that... fishing, tourism, real estate values, the soiling of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
I'm praying for a miracle.

I think we're all praying for a miracle, sounds like that's what it will take to avert the slick. I just read online (which we already knew) that the well was not equipped with a remote valve to automatically shut off the well. It is not required in the U.S., BUT it is required in most other parts of the world. If we are concerned about the environment, WHY haven't we changed these requirements to the most obvious solution? I'm not a Tree Hugger, but give me a break; with all of the screaming about protecting things, much of which I don't disagree with in principle, Why in the H doesn't Congress or others have this requirement in place? It's a no brainer. Didn't plan on that outburst when I began here; So hopefully the burning process they have just retested will prove to be of benefit in getting rid of at least some of the existing slick. GB, as of last night news reports, it looked like the winds could blow it west of you. God's speed to all his creatures (humans included).

Hate hearing that our beautiful gulf shores will be messed up for awhile. It especially makes me sick to see the wildlife coated with this stuff.

Say a prayer for my little brother tonight. His heart is not beating correctly and he's in the hospital. If it doesn't go back into rhythm by Monday, he gets shocked. I've had several friends with this same problem.

Mom and I are going up tomorrow, unless it snaps back into rhythm and they send him home.

Amen DJ. No oil here yet, but it's just a question of time.
You're probably seeing the same news we are-
Renters are cancelling their reservations here. The economic impact is gonna be unimaginable on the Gulf Coast.

Cissy-
Agreed, I'd love to go back...
When San Franciscans get their heads out of where it is dark, damp, and smelly.

Well, that looks strange, because it is.
My comment to Cissy was in response to her comment on my blog.
Sorry.
What I should have said here is that heart palpations are nothing to sneeze at and his problems are worthy of prayer.
Little brother is in my prayers Cissy.

Cissy, Prayers and thoughts go out to your little brother. Medicine has come so far in the last 10 years for heart problems. Hope all goes well for him.

About the big oil spill, they say it is worse than the Alaska, Valdese spill. I had no idea DJ that a valve was available to shut down a well that has ruptured. As you said, "No Brainer" that this should be a law here in the United States as well as most parts of the world.

I do miss our VK friends and especially my Hand and Foot card playing girlfriends and lovely Eufaula.....

Mark came through with flying colors. No blood clot, so they zapped him. I volunteered to "push the button", but I think the doctor preferred that he do it. He wouldn't let us watch either.

Told the doc that Mark used to play with electric fencing as a kid, and he's probably built up a tolerance...and he might want to crank up that machine quite a bit.

Mark should be able to go home tomorrow.
