Peonies In Bloom

I can't remember exactly how old I was, but I was old enough to notice and remember the Peonies.
We had been to the Time Trials at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Mom had planted Peonies alongside the fence on the South side of our property, and there were also a few plants adjacent to our driveway, also on the South side.
I got out of the car and took notice of them...
Vibrant, healthy plants. Full, white blossoms.
Beautiful.
And I think of that time whenever I see them.

The Peonies are in bloom here.
It must be "500" time!

I'm on duty nights this weekend, so depending on how "the natives" behave I will probably be asleep during the race. I'll listen to as much of it over the radio as I can before falling asleep, and "Tivo" the broadcast to watch it later.

Among the 33 starters are 4 women this year. I'm sure that's a record.
I've written before about how I favor "fillies". I'd be delighted to see one of 'em become the first woman on that Borg-Warner Trophy!

How 'bout you...
Got a favorite?
Why?

Most of the lady racers irritate me. Danica seems to be the only one that can be a serious contender. I'd love to see her win, even though her temper is a little out of hand, but that makes her fit right in with a few of the "real" racers.

Hey Rita, no offense meant but here's my take on the race and racers. I do agree that some of the lady racers are somewhat less of a threat than others to win (much less finish) the race; and one or two might even mimic drivers out here on the streets of Indy / you need to be ready for almost anything to occur. I hope to be watching the race on closed circuit but time and other things out of my control will decide that. If there's going to be a female winner I would MUCH rather Sarah Fisher win. She has her own Team and when the car doesn't perform well it's a problem with not being able to get the car up to speed. Not, that I've done my part and it's not MY fault that They can't make it go as fast as I want. If Sarah had the equipment Danica is accustomed to, I think she would do quite well. Danica has always had the best equipment to drive and now that her car won't go as fast as she wants it to . . . . . it's someone else's fault and it's not a team issue." It's not my fault" . . . Nobody said it was your fault Danica, but it's all about Danica and so she has to remove herself from the issue when it's not going well. TK is a perfect example of a team driver. Didn't hear anyone else on the team shout out it's not my fault when their car wouldn't go as fast as expected. The whole team has a problem with speed ( lack of it) this year, but thank god it's not Danicas fault! Oh, did I forget to mention I don't care too much for Danica? Oh well, it's going to be a beautiful weekend and I hope they have a great race. Congrads to the winner (Sarah or TK would be good but not probable) and Gods speed to them all and to all the Vandy's Kids too. And God Bless our troops, Vets and God Bless the USA. Lest we forget; here in Indy it is Race Weekend, but more importantly it is Memorial Day Weekend, don't forget to give Thanks for the Blessings in our life. See you at the Banquet on the 12th. (And Thanks Dan for the help with tickets)

(Funny thing . . now when I drive by / through Garfield Park the flowers, fountains, and sledding hill have new different memories attached to them, thanks to these crazy V.K. people) I mean, really, who ARE these people?

Decisions, decisions!
Do I support Sarah Fisher,
Ana Beatriz,
Simona De Silvestro,
or the "whiny" Danica Patrick?
Right now I'm leaning with DJ...
Sarah seems genuinely nice and probably needs the boost a BIG win would provide more than the others right now.
GO SARAH!

I agree DJ Sarah is the lady. And from what I hear a truly nice one at that.
Danica, well, is too full of Danica. No humble pie there.

I know what you mean about the peonies. My grandparents used to live on 14th st. in Speedway and their yard was full of them. They always took in boarders during the race period. They had these four men from Canada that came each year to stay with grandma. They said no one could feed them better. They were right.
I remember going one year and doing the famous parking and staying right on 16th st. that night. The next day while standing by the fence at the infield, I got to meet James Garner. What a nice man. He was on the outside and walking down the fence line and just being a real guy and introducing himself, (like he needed to do that) and shaking hands. Memories, nothing better.

I'm all for Sarah too, hope she does well. Nice girl, I think.

Along with the Peonies blooming, 538 students graduated from CGHS tonight. Remember 45 years ago when we received our High School Diplomas? I do. It was the last time we were all together at the same time and each of us had a lot to look forward to. I'm so happy we all still care about each other. AND who would have thought that we would be able to communicate on these computers--WOW! I wonder what we would have said if we had been told what our futures would be. AAAAHHHHHGGGGG!!!!

Love,
Bo

A personal favorite of mine did not even make the race - Milka Duno.Seriously though, like DJ, I was not pleased to hear DP throw her whole team under the bus like she did.

We put out a few tomato plants last year. A couple in pots and 6/8 in a small patch of churned up soil. Did everything to get them to produce - tended to them, used miracle grow, braced them and ended up with very few tomatoes. Although, we were sure 'something or someone was 'helping themselves' to them. No evidence left at the scene - never did really find out wether it was animal or man. We did see a family of racoons coming and going during the ripening process, though. Still no evidence left laying around makes one wonder... haven't put any out this year. Will buy from the farm lady up the road....What will I do in retirement? Probably not much gardening....

Ever smell a white peony vs. a red or pink one? The white ones are so fragrant--the red/pinks not so much. And ants just love the things.

As far as racers go, I'm just not much into it. Maybe I should go some year just to be able to say I did.

We spent Memorial weekend camping at Boggs. We fixed and ate three huge meals every day. The kids swam until they were waterlogged. Rudy loved the golf cart ride and went on his first boat ride too. The beds were a tad uncomfortable, and I spent the weekend wheezing and coughing. I wished I'd felt more like my old self, but at least I made it through the weekend by pacing myself.

I think the Vandy kids should do a mass campout at Boggs sometime. They say there's some pretty good sized bass in the lake, and one of our extended family members did catch a four-pounder this weekend.

Kevin, the boy with the stem cell glioma, made it to Boggs. His dad wheeled him to the water's edge and he was able to cast his line. When he got a bite, his cousin would hole the fishing pole while Kevin reeled in. They said Kevin caught 11 fish. He left with a smile on his face. Bless him and his family.

OK, I got the message about Danica, but I still like her maybe for the same strange reason that I like Tony Stewart, who is also out of control alot.

As Cissy said, a reunion at Boggs would be great. We filled all six FEMA trailers they have down on an exclusive point. Lots of food, lots of fun, lots of kids and lots of water.

Could get the race turned in and for the first time in years I didn't even care about listening to it. I was having too much fun enjoying my grandson and my great nieces and nephew and the rest of the family.

Perfect weekend.

Just got home from St.Joe Beach and did not see any oil. The oil patrol have lines of yellow bumpers on the beach and across the water at Indian Pass. They are going to try and stop it before it goes in the bay. Only GOD knows and time will tell.

I spent one night at Eufaula and only fished for 1 hour. We caught 9 in about 15 minutes. They were schooling. My friend's frig went out so our fishing trip was short.

Then traveled from Eufaula to St. Joe Beach with Son and Wife and GRANDKIDS. We fished every day. Caught some and let some go. No it was not release they just got away. Grandson loves to crank them in Grandaughter wants to cast. Have you ever seen what treble hook can do. Not a prtty sight. But they both missed. They have no NO TV at the beach house. We have been out of touch since friday. Great weekend. Don't have any flower stories. A perfect yard is concrete and paint green. Did not see or hear about races.

I do know we are planning our trip up north. The 12th and 13th is red on our calendar. See ya'll in June with my sunburn and all. H of C&H

Dear H&C,
WOW! Sounds like you had a great fishing trip. Spoke with TD about how many fish you two caught in Eufala. Doesn't sound like you could have more fun than that. I wish I could have joined everyone in Eufala, just couldn't get there from AZ.

Looking forward to seeing you and C at the Alumni Banquet.
