Just old or delusional

Okay you old timers, help me out here. For those that went to Center Grove Elementary School,
Did we or did we not have a great big round merry- go- round that held lots of kids and it had foot bars and handles we pumped it as hard as we could to make it go as fast as the wind? In the winter, your gloves would stick to the bars when it snowed.
Did one side come up or not or was that a manufactured memory. Did we have a smaller one also?
I also remember two silver slides that were as tall as the clouds and one had a bar we could flip over and show our petticots to the fine young men at school and a set of swings, with the iron poles and you could stand on and pump so hard, you just knew they were going to go over the bar. What am I leaving out here?
Or was that whole playground a dream?

Poor kids now a days.

GH, your memory is certainly better than mine especially the part about how fast the merry-go-round would go, how tall the slides were and how high the swings would go!
The playground wasn't a dream though. I remember the monkey bars and teeter totters --- and the pigs in the pasture south of the elementary building -- always good for entertainment

Oh yes, the teeter totter and monkey, how could I forget them?
I remember the pigs and the scary woods East of the school. I think we had some school picnics back there.

this brought back memories, sounds correct to me. I think the merry-go-round had tilted over time and that made it a better ride.

Yeah.
And other than one instance, (Mike Nance getting his teeth knocked out), I don't remember any serious injuries.

We were tough, weren't we?
Still are, too.

I'm here! Busy as I can be with my granddaugter who is visiting from Virginia. She's here for two weeks. Today we're meeting Mr. and Mrs. Hawkeye and their granddaughter in Bloomington for a day of fun. Hope the girls will enjoy being together.

Having my granddaughter here brings back memories of the things I did when I was her age. I always looked forward to the summer when I could visit my aunts, uncles and grandparents in southern Indiana. My daughter and son-in-law to Sabrina to the rodeo Monday night. She really liked that! She not only liked the rodeo but she thinks my son-in-law is cute! Her face gets red whenever she's around him.

Hope everyone is having a great summer and keeping as cool as possible.

Pennington's farm was on the southside. The great CG amusement recess ride was the ocean wave. This contraption was a litigation attorney's manna from heaven and as fun as the the early 60's were. Also the metal Maypole that rammed your body and legs into the center pole was pretty awesome. I still remember Mrs.Hall giving me a whack for not participating in the 4th grade mandatory class fun event. But she was a damn good math teacher (and a better get than Edna and Gertrude sister Gestapo - and her chalkboard mentoring helped later both in Mrs. Clement's (Coach Clement's good looking wife) high school math classes and in integral calculus at Purdue where Center Grove set the high end of the curve ...

There was also a very large rock next to the playground where we played "king of the mountain". I got knocked off it and broke my arm. The school "nurse" made a sling and used an old magazine to brace it. The doctor put a cast on it which I cut off with my dad's hacksaw about a week later. How did we ever survive that great old playground?
