Mortuary Science

We've lately been watching a bunch of videos on YouTube. They're addictive.
One of the producers we've found is a gal with a site called "Lauren the Mortician".
We find her interesting.

Today we watched one of her videos that really struck a nerve with me.
She discussed what it's like for a Mortician to have to work on an acquaintance, close friend, or relative.
I've often thought about this-
"TwoDogs" Father Tug did the professional work on his nephew, Wayne.
I always felt that had to be a VERY difficult job for him.

Lauren says NO.
She says it's an honor... an act of love.

I'm glad to see that side of it.

Dad always considered it an honor as well. He was well known throughout the county and had lots of connections. That always bode well for JC and daughter. That is the main reason that JC Wilson built the funeral home in Greenwood. JC had a daughter who married a fellow by the name of St. Pierre. Dad worked for JC long before they built the home in Greenwood. The original JC Wilson was on Prospect in Indianapolis. During that time, Dad was also Deputy Coroner for Marion County - City of Indianapolis.. As a kid, I spent some time on Prospect Street with Dad. Early on, he worked nights and sometimes, I would go to work with him. What other kids thought was weird, we thought was normal. Again, as a kid, I thought it was neat to just be able to stroll into the City morgue. Now thinking back, I remember how cold and stark that place was. At the time, it was not scary at all. What was scary to me was walking around at night at the funeral home among the caskets - wondering when someone was going to pop up..... Scary!
