Aloha in '07?

Again, let me see if I have the pulse of things here:

Looks to me like Hawaii would be agreeable to all.
Since this, no matter how much we all try to help, will fall heavily on GH, I suggest we let her sort out her calendar for dates most convenient for her.......then we can choose between those dates for a time convenient for most of the rest of us.

Having planned a big family reunion some years ago, I found that the best dates generally don't revolve around holidays, as many will have other family plans for those dates.
I've also found that if you don't put your foot down and set dates, things get put off ad-infinitum, so we need to start firming things up here.

We could plan for a couple dates for the entire group to be together, then individuals could strike out on their own agendas, or make further plans for group activities, if that is their desire.
I love the idea of biking down the volcano. GH can guide us to other activities.......floating through the lava pipe sounds wonderful, and the Pearl Harbor tour is top on my list.
Beyond that.......food, drink, and fellowship are all I care about.

So let's burn up the comments section here......
I think this could be something that would be better than "Elvis"!
GH, if we could impose upon you, please start looking at dates most convenient for you, considering the factors you would know best: weather, other tourist traffic, etc..
And Vandy's Kids.........COMMENT!
Make your preferences known!

Oh, and I'll go one step further:
Alaska in '08!

Aloha '07 sounds okay to me: God willing and I keep my health!
My second choice is the "Head 'Em Up - Move 'Em Out" Dude Ranch Experience.
Enough said by the FLY...

Sounds great to me!

I've heard the whales have a nursery someplace over there;
I'm already wearing my whale watching goggles.

Gotta get a hat to match

My Chicago gal is saying, "Dude Ranch?" That's like horses and stuff, right?
I think Fly kinda said it already:
Rough camping for Sara Jean is the "Holiday Inn" with a Queen size bed!

Don't get me wrong.....we'll come,
but Sara Jean will find a spot by the pool to insure the Highwaymen don't get a strong foothold there until we get back from horseback riding.

"Fresh Air!"
"Times Square!"

Ferdy, you gotta get out more, girl!

Ferdy....
Tell ya what....
I bet with a little coaxing, TD and the lovely Ms. TD would meet us all here, and we could just start the Aloha '07 reunion a little early.

Handholding? I bet I can come up with some medicine that will have ya doin' the "hand jive"!

Ferd Girl: tsk, tsk, tsk! Don't worry about a thing. You've got lots of Trojans that will look out for you! I'm with GB: do drugs!
My Hoosier Boy, who is the worse "white knuckel" flyer in the world, made all the way to NZ and Italy on Xanax. If he can do it; you can do it.Gotta keep the faith!
You just give all your tickets & important papers to someone who will keep you on a leash...ha, ha.
I promise you, you won't feel (or remember) a thing. It's easier than a colonoscopy!! You can eat and drink anthing you want pre-flight and during flight....ha!
GB: Green Acres is the place to be...Hayrides & bonfires, front porches & tall cool drinks, mountain views & manure!!! Oh, I can just smell that fresh air!!

Adding a couple of aberrant thoughts to the discussion:
Vacationing with friends can be a tricky thing. Sometimes people leave as friends and return as less than that. I’m not saying that would happen, I’m just saying that it’s possible.

A Stateside trip might be a good first option since 1) it would probably be less expensive and more people could go 2) if someone didn’t want to stay the whole time, it would be easier to leave. And 3) if we found out that we really DID have fun together in real life (as opposed to Cyber Memory Lane, one of my favorite spots) then we could book something more adventurous in the future.

I’m not voting one way or the other yet; I’m just putting this out for discussion

Count me in - for anything that we do.

FF, like the song says "Count on Me". Indy has a nice airport to fly out of. The shorter first flight sounds like the ticket to get you back into the flying mode. You won't have to do much coaxing to get us to the Dude Ranch. Mr & Ms TD have started packing the suitcases, just tell us where and when, we'll be there. We love horses and fresh air. Life is a journey and we plan on making it as interesting as possible. Lord knows, it's been pretty interesting up to now!!!

GB, Southport is not quite as "Big City" as Chicago, but Cindy does enjoy the big city lights as well. Her eyes seem to be much brighter when she is SHOPPING!! We've heard that going to a dude ranch is alot more than horses and stuff. Looking at my vac. schedule, I have weeks off in June, July and August. Depending on a couple of factors, We could do the Dude Ranch this year - no problem..

I also tend to agree with PT. One key is to make sure there is enough 'free time' for everyone. Also, No peer pressure to do what you don't really want to do. Sitting in the Hot Tub - drinking a glass of wine - while others ride off down that dusty trail would be fine. One thing here, though, GB. I'd keep an eye on those Highwaymen.

FF - ELaine Y, Sharon S - a couple of faces I haven't seen in a long long time. Have you heard from them lately? I need to update my list.

Let me caution everyone here here from a couple angles:

Stateside?
We need to be clear.
GH will be the first to tell you that Hawaii was admitted to the Union in '59. So exactly what are we talkin' about here?

I agree with PT.....I think going to New Zealand or Tahiti, or for that matter "Kokomo" would be exciting, but I'll be awaiting the report of those that go to such exotic places....I simply don't have that kind of time until after I'm officially retired.

And Ferdy, I'll publish a full post on this later, and I know that nothing I say will make you more comfortable flying, but you are FAR MORE at risk driving somewhere than you would be getting into a flying bus and going to the same destination. (Not to mention the fact that you can also do it cheaper in the airplane.....I'm flying round-trip to Houston next week for $187! Figure time/gas/wear and tear on car and body, and you cannot do it for that any other way.)

I continually pick up pieces of people on the highway that have been struck by an idiot drunk. Statistics show that 1 in 10 drivers on the road is under the influence of some mind-altering substance.
I'll fly anytime, and nap while I do it, thank you.

I guess I was thinking CONUS when I said Stateside, GB.
Does CONUS include coastal waters FlyGirl?

Ferdy, don't worry about flying. Stick with me. John Edwards told me I was to live until I'm 90 so if you are with me, the plane is solid!

If however, John Edwards is wrong, there are a few of benefits to plane crashes you should think about.
1) It will probably be over very quickly, 2) chances are slim that we will have to suffer in ICU or Rehab,,, yuckola nasty places! 3) Living in a nursing home with someone else changing our bloomers probably is not in the cards.

See? Doesn't that make you feel better? No worries Mate!

:::Hmmm, maybe GB should talk more about safety factors ::::

CON-US is good for me! Anyplace!

PT: Yep, Coastal Waters are part of CON-US. However, there are the "Conch Republic" folks in the keys that would disagree with this! But with all the big money moving into the "CR", the native population is dwindling down there! Too Bad!
