Lemme throw something on the table and see if it sticks.
Long term planning involved......therefore the title of the post.....
It's obvious from comments to many posts that travel is high on the list of things Vandy's Kids enjoy......a fishing trip in the near future, and we're all lookin' forward to a review of TD's China trip when he and Ms. TD are safely home.
Set me to thinkin'......
(I know, that's a danger on it's own!)
How much interest do you think we'd have in planning a Cruise/reunion?
A couple itineraries come quickly to mind.....
I've always wanted to do the Alaskan "Inside Passage" cruise.
We could start now to plan for a summer '07 cruise.
Or alternatively....
Hawaii!
Rumor is that GH's husband gives a wonderful tour of Pearl Harbor....places that normal human beings don't often see.
Wouldn't it be fun to go as a group and bicycle down a volcano together?
I'm throwing these out as "seed" ideas.
Whatd'ya think?
Got a better plan?

Guess who's on first? Me, Me, Me..
I'm on board for a 2007 Trojan Tour! Hawaii would be super; we could have the first annual "Battle of the Sexes Shoot Out" (see my comment on your Galveston trip).
I'm up for just about anything...I've always yearned to do the Inside Passage Cruise in Alaska too.
More suggestions...
I'm in!! Can't wait. I've never been to Hawaii and the Alaskan cruise is on my list of Gotta Do It things. I've heard wonderful things about it.
Either one is fine with me and CINC-House (as soon as I tell him, anyway) We’re open to other options too.
GB on the Inside Alaska trip do you get to see whales and moose, and bears?
Riding a bike down a volcano would be a hoot too! Maybe we could take one of those helicopter trips inside?
Me, Me, Me, tooooo.
We would be up for either and/or all. If we are doing a Battle of the Sexes Shoot Out - Hawaii would be best for sure. Marlin fishing off the Kona coast is great. Also have caught Marlin off of Oahu. Great Charters from both harbors. I have never fished from Maui, but understand it is great as well. Lahaina is the neatest place. I have a great little story to tell about it... Great Food. But, with GG being on Oahu, that would be the place to be.. Good visuals there, too. Maybe Hawaii next year and the Inside Passage Cruise the year after that.. Sounds great to us...
Then, maybe - a flight to Tahiti and a cruise out of Papeete visiting the islands of Raitatea -Taha - Bora Bora - Moorea and more. Small Cruise Ship (320 pass.) 7/10 days. Either are available. Looks great. FG, have any info about this??
Or staying in North America. How about a Wine Country Tour and Yosemite N.P. - or a float trip in the Canyon Country of Utah. We actually have a fellow classmate that could be our guide and outfitter for that trip. Larry M. is a retired NFS Manager who takes these trips every year or so. He has bought some property close to Bryce Canyon NP and Zion Canyon NP, Utah and is moving out there in September.
I've also heard tales about another classmate being involved in a Dude Ranch. Is it JWH? Thats a thought, too.
There are endless things that we could do as a group and really enjoy each others company as well. PT - this mini is a very good start. Good Job!
This sounds absolutely exciting, so many places and so little time.
We would be happy to host the trip here. Any island or even two is great. Hike into the Volcano, we are doing that in June. Let you know on that one.
NZ, Tahiti, probably could round up a group tour from here on anything south or Asia. They have great tours to Japan for a few nights really reasonable also. Know a local there that would be a blast. Open for any and all suggestions.
Something else that is fun that we have done some is geo caching.
Has anyone heard of it??
There are over 200,000 treasures in 221 countries to find with your GPS. We had a ball.
Hubby's parents did the Alaska thing and loved it.
There is also a cruise to Alaska, then unload and take the train into the interior that is magnificent, If that is still done.
On Maui, they have the bikes down the Volcano, mtn. tours on ATVs, Horseback riding all over.
On Big Island, they had ride the raft down a lava tube. Have to check that one out still.
The Tahiti thing sounds like a blast, or even a barefoot cruise on a mast ship.
Let's hear it from everyone.
All Fellow Travel Pigs:
OMG! Did the class of '65 turn out a herd of Travel Pigs or WHAT???
GB: Hats off to you for posting this idea of a 2007 Trojan Tour!
We travel pigs blog like a pack of mad dogs...ha! Saliva is everywhere, maps are out, eyes are blurry, and Dream Adventures are swimming in our heads....I'm even getting dizzy!!!
TD: Your suggestions are great. I don't have a lot of info on places out of Fiji, Tahiti or Papeete...they were usually 1 to 2 day stop overs on the way to Australia. Sorry, I'm no help there!
Good old USA sounds like lots of fun! Love the Dude Ranch, Rafting/Floating ideas!
Hawaii could be a really good place, and we could arrange that Battle of the Sexes Shoot Out!
I've been to Hawaii, mostly on business (Uck!), but have stayed couple of days here & there on the way to other destinations...but really like it. A big plus for Ohau is GH being there!
I might be leaning toward a Western Theme???? Liking that Dude Ranch a lot...um???? I've never been to a Dude Ranch!!!!
Hey, I'll go anywhere and love it!
