6 Degrees of Greybeard

Every Winter I wonder how I did this to myself...
Planted roots in a place where the temperature frequently drops into the single digits, like the forecast this weekend. Brass monkeys will be in big trouble.
When the temperature dips below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, this old boy takes up complaining about the weather as a full-time job.
But this weekend we're takin' action... we're headed South.
When I close up this laptop I'll load it in the car along with a week's worth of our "stuff", and we'll spend tonight with Nellie. Tomorrow night we'll be in Destin watching pelicans zoom from West to East, or vice versa. Don't be too envious of us... it'll be in the 40's in Destin and if the wind is blowing, brass monkeys will be seeking shelter there too!

Now, what about you?
Tell us your news!

Hey Mr. L. and GB,
Ruby, Max and I are leaving for Mesa Monday A.M. I hear the weather there is also chilly....34 degrees or so this week end....I hope it will warm up next week.

You all take care, have fun and stay in touch.

What's all this stuff about global warming???
There seems to be cold everywhere. We are even having a cold spell. One of the islands got down into the 50's the other night.
I had to dig out a pair of socks.
The days have been about 10 degrees cooler also. Today, I see some blue sky though and I am taking that for a positive.
GB:
I hope for safety and warmth for all brass monkeys.
Enjoy that well earned trip.

Cold here, too. 40's in the day, 30's at night. No snow yet since I'm close to the ocean.

But I'm with GB on the temperature. My optimal functioning ambient temperature is 50 to 75.

When it gets this cold I really feel for the homeless veterans who have to get through the night shivering. (Veterans Administration says there are 195,000 homeless veterans).

The only compensation for the winter cold is when at least there is sun during the day. Cold and cloudy overcast during the day is dreary.

The good news is that the sun is returning and the forecast is for summertime sometime around June.

We are safely in Pensacola. Snow/Sleet/Freezing rain is predicted tonight for Montgomery, Alabama. We had rain on the windscreen the last hour of our drive tonight, so I'm glad to be safe and warm under roof.
The homeless problem Asoka refers to is such a sad thing... and the fact that many Viet Nam Vets are among that number breaks my heart. We listened to WBBM out of Chicago after sundown, and they were predicting single digit temps with strong winds... chill factor of less than zero. Many of those folks outside shelters will die tonight.
There's gotta be a better way.

Even thought it is "cold" I would love to be in Florida. Shifty and I spent Christmas with friends in Kentucky and then headed to Lakeland Fla. for a second Christmas celebration with friends. We were able to spend New Years there.

The weather was beautiful (in the 80's) every day we was there until the day before we left. Got cold enough for a light weight jacket. It was so funny to here the Floridians complaine about how "cold" it was.

This was the first time in 13 years that Shifty has gotten enought time off from work for us to go down for a visit.

We feel in love with Lakeland and at this point have decided (if and when) we finally get to retire that this is where we want to retire.

We have been talking about it ever since we got back. Wonder how the "gang" will consider having the Harris Annaul Mini in sunny Florida when the time comes????

Hope it warms up for you. We are keeping our fingures crossed that Shifty can at least get a few days off for the fishing trip this summer. Of course that is his really busy time at the gravel pit so heaven only knows at this point if he can make it. Everyone keep their fingures crossed we will be able to join you all.

By the way Gid Sara Jean get her braclet OK ???? Never did hear back from you.

Wow, Echo... talk about exposing my lack of social skills!
Yes, we got the bracelet safely. Thank you for taking the time to send it out. Sara Jean almost left it at my Mothers in Pensacola this weekend, and remarked that if Mom had had to send it to her, that would have been the second time in a year! (Remember, memory is the second thing you lose as you age.)

I am typing this note in a Krystal hamburger joint in Hoover, Alabama, just South of Birmingham. Sara Jean has to be back to work in the A.M. and I'm back to work tomorrow night. We've had a great time over the four days, but we're sorry we've missed Mr. L. somewhere along the line on I-65. I couldn't make the phone connection with him today.

Hope this finds all of you well and surviving the cold snap. It was 63 degrees as we left Destin this morning. We have our cold weather gear at the ready for when we get home... lookin' forward to getting back into our routine.

Be well everyone.

Glad Sara Jean got the braclet. I have been wanting to post some of my (new) little dittys for the year and some other things but for some reason I can't log on to post. All I can do is make comments under anonymous. Maybe when you get home and settle down you can give me a call and see if you can figure out what's the problem.
