Classmate of '65

Parvin Salmassie:

She graduated with us in ‘65. Said she was from Persia (Iran). I’ve often thought about her and wondered what became of her, if by chance she was back in Iran. How did she endure the Gulf War or the war we are now in over there in the Middle East?

I ran across her name on ancestry.com the other night and I got 3 returns for that name. Of the info I retrieved it said she was born in Jan. 1948, her last name is now Carter, and that a family member is trying to locate her. That family member left an email address so I replied and gave them minimal info, but enough info so that they could determine if it was the same person. So far I’ve received 2 replies from her son, Robert D. Carter. The first message says:

My mom lives in Indiana. this might be her

My reply back was:

The Parvin Salmassie that graduated with me said she was from
Persia (which is now Iran, I guess). This was back in 1965.
I keep in touch with several of my classmates from back then.
What kind of information did you need? or what were you looking for?

His reply came back immediately:

Anything available. That would be my mom :)
Sent from my iPhone

Ok, so now I don’t know what to do because his email address is from Indiana.
If he knows his mom lives in Indiana, then I’m not sure what he’s looking for.

Please….any suggestions on what I should do from here would be greatly appreciated.
Should I just forget it?

Joker, am I reading this right? Her son lives in Indiana and so does she and he doesn't know where she is?

That is whats got me stumped. Am I missing something here? I don't see how this could be some kind of scam, but I'm also thinking maybe Parvin doesn't want to be found, for whatever reason, and I should just leave it alone. Because I don't know if this guy is legit or not. That's why I didn't give out any info in the first place....just in case.

I think you've done the right thing by not giving out too much info. If he really is her son, she apparently doesn't want any contact with him. Unless, she gave him up for adoption for some reason. Then she may be looking for him also.
After reading this comment, I realize I haven't helped you at all. Hopefully, some one else will have some input. Keep us posted.

Well, I haven't written him back and I haven't heard anymore from him. I'll sit on it for another day and maybe someone out there can shed some light on this.

I remember talking to Parvin at a five year class reunion that was held at Valla Vista many years back. She said she was doctor. But I don't think she was a medical doctor. So kind of specialty or something. Also I believe that she and Carol Fleener were good friend in high school and I think she was one of Carols bridesmaids. Perhaps Carol would know something about her (possibily her personal life) that would let you know if this guy could be legit.

The last contact I had from Parvin was in 1997 when we had a 50th surprise party for Harry and she sent a long letter for my son to read about how Harry & I became good friends with her. She was a Dentist on the north side of Indianapolis and was going by the last name of Carter, but I think her second husband's last name was Ford[I'm not sure.] I have her address where she was living then, but I'm hesitant to put it on here until Joker finds out more information why her son doesn't know where she is.

I think everyone's "Spidey Sense" is tingling for the same reason...
Something's not right here.

Best bet...
Let's get in touch with Parvin and let her carry the ball from there.
Wouldn't it be nice is she was waiting from some sort of move by this boy?
Let's hope that's the case.

Good for you, Joker.

I just got an email from GoldenHorse and she says the same thing: that Parvin is a dentist on the N-side of Indy, and Carol F. might know about her. Thanks, Carol...I was just getting ready to email you.
I will try to get in touch with our mysterious denist.
Don't put Parvin's address on here. I'll see what I can find out. I love a good mystery!!!!

OK....
The case may be solved.
Someone gave me a couple of phone #'s and waddaya know, the same phone number was listed in the yellow pages.

Called the first number, it was Dr. Parvin Carter's office. The person who answered said she had retired and moved to Calif.

The second number was answered by Robert D. Carter, himself. He wanted to know who I was and when I said my name, he immediately told me who he was. He also said she had sold the business and moved to Calif. but was still practicing denistry. He has her cell phone number and knows where she is. He said he is only searching because he wants to dig into her family history more. His exact words were, "I want to find out more about her other family".

The only thing I told him was that the last person who had contact with Parvin was back in 1997. I gave no names and I never mentioned the school where we graduated.

I remember many years ago that a person was murdered in Indianapolis and the television news showed a person who I thought was Parvin as the wife of the man who was murdered. It seems like she was a member of a group that gathered for a candlelight vigle whenever there was a murder in Indianapolis several years ago.

I was afraid I may have opened a bad can of worms after I wrote that comment. I hope it doesn't cause any harm or hurt to anyone...especially Parvin. I always thought she was a great girl and thought she was so special and enjoyed being with her. I couldn't quite figure where she was from though! DUMB Dumb

Carter is her last name now, she is a dentist on the North side. I found her number in the white pages and yellow pages too [home and office]. She came to our 30th reunion and is still a delight to talk with. It is Dr Parvin Carter. BobWhiteDan
