Once Again, Down Memory Lane

I'm not sure about what I'm reading so take this with a grain of salt. But poking around at our CGHS link, I think I read they're planning the Alumni Banquet on 25 April in the old gymnasium(!) this year.
Hatchet took a few of
us on a tour last year, terminating in the old gym. I wrote about the almost mystical feeling of being in that old structure here.
If you have the same fond memories I have about that old "field of dreams", and if it's true the banquet will be held there this year, maybe we can all meet and share memories on the 25th?
(We all know that at some future date that place we all know and love will be destroyed in the name of "progress". )
I hope my understanding is correct. And if it is, can you plan on meeting me for dinner on that evening?

Done Deal GB. We enjoyed the tour with Hatchet, even went through the old "weight room" on the way to the gym.

Sounds like fun to us. The old "weight room" was the tunnel and some old mats ?

Hawk, Absolutely correct on the "Weight Room", but don't forget the wooden bench.

Count on Shifty and me. It's funny I was just thinking about the banquet last week and was going to ask if anyone knew when it was going to be.

If anyone knows where we get our tickets please post. I know last year they said you could buy tickets at the door. But they ran out of food and some couldn't get dinner. Remember ??????

I think last year Dan F. was selling tickets and I got mine from him.

I won't make it to the banquet. I'll be in Virginia that weekend. Hope you all have a good time!

I'll be halfway around the world on April 25th. I loved that old gym. We held our yearly GAA slumber parties there every year, with only Mrs. Tumey as a chaperon--and we had the run of the place. We swung from the rope, nearly hitting the basketball goals, we hid in the boys' restroom, made soapballs and threw them on the ceiling. But the best/weirdest thing that happened during those slumber parties was the year we got wind that the juniors and seniors were going to beat the holy snot out of the freshman and sophomores. So we underclassmen, in our baby doll pajamas, gathered in a huge clump on several rows of the bleachers. Who knows why these girls decided to beat the tar out of us--nobody had done anything and nobody was made. Maybe they did it out of boredom. But here they came. They'd grab girls and fling 'em off the bleachers. Our PJs got ripped, and we were covered in scratches, but we stood and persevered. They finally wore out and left us alone.

Now I realize that this would've made a really good video, if we'd had something other than 8mm silent movies at that time. The guys would've loved it.

Ok, maybe I've just been around my pervert husband too long, but I find it hard to imagine the guys reading Cissy's account, didn't FIRST picture a bunch of high school girls sitting around in their baby doll pajamas and then getting them ripped from some upperclassmen as being one of the most exciting things they've thought about in awhile.

Am I wrong here guys?

Anyway, Cissy, her son and I will be celebrating my 50th in Italy during that time.

Seems like we just can't seem to get the Riley clan to one of these events.

But guys, enjoy the high school girls in their baby dolls pj's anyway. ;)

I was in GAA all 4 years of high school and I don't remember any confortation with the junior and senior girls.

Where was Mrs. Tumey when all of this was going one?

Yep! I have pictured this many times, Even before Cissy told the story! And I really don't think we (Husbands) are perverted. It's just that some of us have these 'visions' from time to time.... You know that saying - "The mind is a wondrous thing..." Well, I agree with that.

Rita, Cissy & all, Enjoy your time in Italy. Happy Birthday to you, Rita. Watch out for those perverted Italian men....

I do plan on attending the Alumni Banquet again this year. Hope to see lots of VKs there...

...and I knew the guys would enjoy the thought of all those young cute girls in their little short jammies. But guys...picture the scene as we now look...gray, overweight, droopy, saggy. Not quite the same, is it?

Cissy Apple said...

Echo, it did happen probably my sophomore year...1968-69. I was one of those in the middle of the herd on the bleachers. Like I said, I don't know what started it--nobody was made at anyone. I think it was just something to do. And Mrs. Tumey always disappeared shortly after the slumber parties started. She showed up once in awhile during the night, but not often and not for long.

Hey Cissy, gray, overweight, droopy and saggy ain't so bad. At least we are still kickin.

And (IF) the guys are comparing now to back then remember guys we women are like fine wines - WE JUST GET BETTER WITH AGE. And as far a any gray hair is concerned. Bet you contributed to a few of them HAHA.

But I like to say that I still have the same thing I had in high school. IT'S JUST IN A DIFFERENT PLACE THAN IT US TO BE.

Well, most of the guys I see nowadays have that "Dickie-doo" disease. I think it plagues most of them. But we're all in this together. Aging ain't pretty and it ain't for the faint of heart, but certainly better than the alternative; which is dying young.

TD wrote and said he was having difficulty finding info on the Alumni Banquet. The problem is, the Alumni Association hasn't updated their website since about 1958, apparently.
Let me try to link the calendar page I'm reading that indicates the banquet will be held in the old gymnasium. If this works, take a look at 25 April and see if you agree with my reading of it.

And about the "repositioning" of assets you guys are speaking of...
The old "Different strokes for different folks" rule applies.
And as I gray and wrinkle I'm thankful that looks ain't everything!

I went to that same page on the "calender" @ CGHS and it for sure says what you said it says. Banquet "OLD" gym (west). And yes, the last update on the alumni page was just about this time last year, announcing times etc. for the banquet 2008. Which actually is about where I am right now, but I try hard anyway. Should be a great time. Wonder if we will get to tour the locker room and check out the showers to see if there are still 1 or 2 working (as in 1965) And that was on a good day!

But on the ticket it says.

THE TICKET SAYS:
