What A Strange Job...

It's 3:30 A.M. as I write this note. I'm at work. Fox News is on the TV here and I'm watching Brett Baier for the second time... a repeat of the broadcast I saw just before leaving home for work.

Two days ago I had barely gotten through the door when the telephone rang asking if I could fly. I hurriedly finished my aircraft preflight, weather checks, and other preflight duties. We flew 15 minutes and picked up a man with a gunshot wound. Gunshot wounds are frequently interesting. This one was only mildly interesting. He was shot with a small caliber weapon and the bullet made several detours around his abdomen before coming to a stop. He needed a good surgeon badly.

But here I am now, more than halfway through my last night at work before coming home to Indiana, and so far it has been quiet. If the phone is gonna ring I wish it would happen quickly so we can be finished with post-flight paperwork by shift change. It would be nice to get off work on time so I can get home and get some rest today.

We're excited about the weekend...
It looks like there's gonna be a good turnout for the banquet, and with good weather Sunday we're hoping to see 50 or so at the picnic.

Sara Jean and I will be on the road early Saturday morning.
We may stop off at the old "Dog and Suds" to meet with Mr. and Mrs. Hawk on the way to the banquet.
We hope to either see ya there, at the banquet, or at the picnic Sunday.
Be safe in your travels, everyone.

I will be there, my wife will be tending to her father, he had by-pass surgery on Mon. and having a difficult recovery. Looking forward to being there, just wish I could bring her with me. Maybe next time,

With any luck, all the Riley kids will be at the picnic, and most at the alumni. I know we'll all have a great time this weekend. See you there!

THIS IS NOT AN EXCUSE.....

You are all sitting down now or visiting with Alumni and classmates. I was in the dentist chair from 8 until 1 p.m. this afternoon. My mouth is swollen, numb and I am miserable and nauseous.

I do feel extremely ashamed and guilty that I'm not with you all. They assured me at the dentist office I would be in fine shape to attend the dinner tonight. ...They lied. I feel like my head has been run over by a cement truck.

Tried getting ready a few minutes ago but gave up when I saw the miserable mess in the mirror. Just can't get there.

Have fun, I know you will.

I love you all, you know that don't you??

Bo, just so you know, we went to Mr & Mrs. Hawkeye's after the banquet and Danny F. asked where you were; so now we know and hope that you feel better tomorrow. There's still the picnic at 12:30 tomorrow, maybe you will be unswollen by then. I do recall a couple of times that they lied to me too and one of those times I was in the chair from about 8 till 2:30 or 3:00. They did five crowns and a bridge at one time. What a day that was. Hope yours is better tomorrow.

Hey GH, I talked to Danny R. and GB and your name was mentioned and it was all good. Now you know!
Take care.

Bo,

I am so sorry for you feeling so bad. Hope you are better very soon.
Did you notice if the dentist's nose grew very long for lying to you?
DJ
Thank you so much, it is nice to know that someone thought of me. I do appreciate all the good thoughts and hope to see you Hoosiers soon.
Take care and don't eat too much at the picnic.
I think of all of you often.

Thanks DJ and GH for your kind thoughts. Sounds like you've been in the "chair of terror" at the dentist office too, DJ. Misery loves company, at least you know what I've gone through. You do have a beautiful smile though!

Mr. Clint wants me to let the dentist know I missed the banquet after their assurance that I would be fine. I hate to get on the wrong side of people who put all kinds of sharp objects in my mouth, however.

You know, I had ceased being terrified when I have dental appointments.....that has now ended. If you just look at my mouth, you would swear you were looking at Angelina Jolie. Don't need any injections for the big lip look! Gums have become less swollen. I just close my mouth very gently. AND, GH, I don't know about the dentist nose but mine is sore, must be because they shoved my upper lip up into my nose for 5 hours....now that's a new experience, rather hard to breathe as well.

GH I do hope you get to come home sometime soon. I know it's a long way to the Valley from where you are but we need you here. I don't blame you for wanting to be with the new baby. What a blessing they are.

Hugs,
Bo

I don't know about anyone else, but this "adopted" member of the class of 65 had a great time at the banquet and the picnic! Can't wait to see all of you again. And wasn't it cool to see Coach and Mrs. Clements and Mrs. Sloop? Good people!

Thanks for inviting the Riley kids!

You know what I'd like to do someday? All of us take a stroll through the valley. We could take photos of all of us in front of our old houses. Anyone game?

Ditto on that Cissy, I had a great time hanging out with all you class of 65 people. Thanks for all your hospitality. Your really nice folks and I had lots of fun hanging out with you all and shootin the bull! Wish my wife could have been there to meet you all, but she had to take care of her pops. I think the valley walk would be a blast, too bad the old bridge is gone, that was my favorite place to "pitch some wool"! haha, see you all later.

Ditto, Ditto. Class of '65, it was really nice of you to allow the Riley kids to invade your party. You are a great bunch. We had a really good time, even if Two Dogs and I had a fight over Leroy's wine. TD: I'll win next time, Roy has to see me alot more often than he does you, he won't want to make me mad.

GB: As soon as we hit Morgantown road on the way to put a flag on Dad's grave, Bob said, "That GB seems like a really nice guy, said we had to swap Vietnam stories next time". Maybe Hawkeye will be there too and you three can tell your stories while we all listen.

You guys were really blessed with a very neat class. Glad we got to meet you and can't wait for the next time.

Thanks everyone.

If you all plan on taking pictures in front of your old home steads, better do it soon. My original home on Smith Valley Road is now occupied by Home Depot.

For all who missed this week end, another great memory for us to store. There was great food and as always great fellowship and the weather, even though the temps were up there, it was very nice in the building.

Thanks B & B for hosting this and for the great location.

For those not present, Steve was elected for his second term as President of our class. He has done a great job for the past 50 years. Thanks Steve!

This past weekend was so great - it more than exceeded my expectations. I saw people I hadn't seen in 45 years. Some were my own classmates and some were my brother's classmates. The alumni banquet was wonderful.

The picnic yesterday was beautiful. The location couldn't have been better. The company was outstanding. Thank you so much, Mr. & Mrs. Hawkeye, for getting everything arranged. It was wonderful. And, a special thank you to Mrs. Hawkeye for bringing my visitor to see me.
