Hangin' It Up.

Many of you have already done it. Why didn't you warn me it would be SUCH an adjustment?
This week I notified my boss that the evening of 3 April will be my last EMS shift. I still love my job, but I'm now finding it takes almost 24 hours to recover and feel rested when my shift is done...
And I've noticed I am more tired during my shift than I'd like. So it's time to quit while I'm ahead.
It'll be quite a luxury to be able to travel on a moment's notice... little planning necessary.
No more bein' irritated with the cold next Winter... We've already made plans to be in Destin from November through the end of March.
You can come visit us. (Just make sure we aren't traipsing off somewhere else!)

Hey, I wrote and posted something, but it didn't post so I will try again later this evening. Sounds like a plan GB . . . Good Luck!

GB, You are going to love Destin in the winter. This year it has been 50 to 80. I know it is a big step. You can handle it. It will be hard to get the grin off your face. I myself have 1 year 10 months and 23 days, but who is counting. I am looking forward to it. Just remember that for every 1 honey do, you get 15 of what you want to do. Congratulations.

PS watching to bikins from the balcony is hard work

GB congrats. I know you will enjoy being retired. Sounds great. I may be joining you. International Paper buying us out. Department of Justice should approve this week. I have 42 years with Inland. It will be different saying I work for IP. I should know in two or three weeks if they will want to keep me or offer me a package. I would like the package I would get 59 weeks of pay and I could start drawing my pension. I have six other companies wanting me to come to work for them. I would probably go back to work for one of them. Hard to give up all the perks like Car, gas, cell phone, computer, lunches, fishing trips, hunting trips, golf, broadway plays, season tickets to Evansville basketball games. I can work about 25 hours per week and handle all my accounts. Ninty percent of my accounts will go with me. Everyone take care.

I love being retired. I spend as much time as my kids will let me keeping my grandkids. I also have a group of friends I spend a lot of time with. Being retired certainly doesn't mean you have to go sit down and do nothing. I also do some volunteer work. GB, I hope you will enjoy your retirement as much as I enjoy mine.

TC sounds like you are RIP. That is retired in place. Ferdy do you wonder how you had time to work. Carol wonders. H or H&C

Congrats on the decision. Relax and putter around the house a little. Eventually, the smile that H&C talked about will show up and you will feel good about being retired. Do what you want - when you want.....or not - There is always tomorrow. What's next? You will figure that out when the time comes. That's what we are doing and we are enjoying it.

Yes, H, sometimes I do wonder how I had time to work. Of course, then I didn't have as many grandkids, I didn't do volunteer work and my house wasn't as clean as it is now. I let things go when I was working so I could go to the girls' cross country and track meets. And, I was younger then and moved faster! LOL!

Thanks to all for the good advice and good wishes. I'm sleeping fitfully these nights, waking in the wee hours and worrying about insuring income exceeds outgo. My crystal ball still worries me watching events unfold, racing toward the end of the year and the difficult income/outgo decisions our leaders must make before then.

TC, your adjustment may be nearly as difficult as mine. You'll have to go through culture shock now, and again when you really retire.

Thanks TD... it'll be good to reach the point I don't worry about what to do next. There are always tons of things I should be doing that can wait 'til tomorrow. It's good to know that won't change!

H&C, we already know we'll LOVE Destin in the Winter...
We're bringing a bike down and hope to be able to ride much of the time we're there.

Ferdy, we too will be traveling...
DJ is now in Casa Grande, AZ, and if anything, the weather there in Winter is nicer than Florida.
A few trips there are in order too!

Be well everyone.
Fine weather (and storms too), is/are just around the corner.

What is the deal with soccer shoes and sunglasses ?

Congratulations on your retirement ! You will not miss work one bit. Like everyone says they don't know where they found time to go to work.
I woke-up one morning early in my retirment and it was raining. Darn ! But I got up took a shower, had breakfast, read the paper and took a nap all before 11:00 AM. It was a good day.
Travel,travel.

I think of it a lot. But I guess the only folks that do are me, and a few "anonymous" commenters.
And that's just sad.

GB / Maybe when I can see "aain" we can change some of that. In the meantime, when is the alumni banquet this year? Anyone?

Anonymous said...

Sorry, that was me.

The date for the banquet is
June 9, 2012. Second Sat in June.
What did you do now? When I can see aain? Torn retina ?

Good for you, Hawk.
One of the problems with "advancing years" is that I assmume I'm just not clued into today's vernacular. I was waiting for someone to give me a hint about "aain"!
Again works.

Well GB how does it feel to be retired? I just got my package last Tuesday. I will be done April 30th. I will be in New York fishing the last five days of April. Sharon and I will be in Branson this weekend. I've already had a job interview last Thursday. May be going back to work right away? Can't give up hunting and fishing trips yet.Hope everyone else doing well!
