The Olive Branch

Driving South on Runyon Road, you'd come to an intersection and have a decision to make.
... Same with Paddock Road... left or right, which way you gonna go?

I had several friends on what is now called "County Road 800 N.", one of which I picked up every morning of my Senior year as I drove to CGHS.
I've driven the road a couple times in the last years and like most of the rest of our old stomping grounds... WOW, has it changed!

Seems odd now that for whatever reason "back when", I never considered the full meaning of the name, "Olive Branch".

GB, I had to go to the map to check out road Names. I always knew where people lived, I just never did relate to all of the names of the roads (I got to the Valley late in life)
)I remember riding Poco down Paddock Road and I found it interesting that Morgantown Road actually lead to Morgantown. More amazing was that Max lived at the end of Max Ave. Then I didn't consider much of anything other than who was playing ball at SVCC or where we were going to try our luck fishing that day. Talk about change, I looked at our old place (satellite) around the corner from Max Ave and no surprise, I liked it better with the barn out back and the field down below that gave access to the creek that ran forever (until you got to MR C'S place and that was no mans land. I think that 22 was illegal even back then.???) I never did find any sugar in sugar creek, but even being a city kid, I soon realized that you didn't go swimming down creek from the "animals". Always enjoyed a big rain though, because we knew there would be 'several keepers' that got through the overflow from the lake across the road. (short lived , B.S. put a smaller grid on the overflow ).
A lot has changed on the surface but those memories are still crystal clear. Thanks for the post GB.
Terry, glad to hear Sharon is doing better; our prayers to all the Vandy's out there.
By the way, where is the Mini this year? And Dan/Steve, what is the date for Alumni Banquet?

DJ, next time we're face to face we'll talk about when "Max" wrecked his fuel injected Corvette and my boss, Bob Hatfield got him off the hook by saying "he had lost enough by wrecking that expensive car".
And was it my imagination, or was Don Floyd always at the Community Center? (What a nice guy!)

Just curious, was Bob still the JP at that time? Don't ask me how I Knew Bob was at one time the JP. . .

Yes. Deputies had given chase but couldn't keep up with the fuel-injected Corvette. When they found it wrecked and abandoned, they called Hatfield, (my boss at the Standard station at the time), to talk to him. (Maybe to get a search warrant?)
That's when Bob suggested they leave Max alone. Think that sort of thing would happen there today?

IT'S OPEN FRIDAY . . . . . ANYOME OUT THERE? ?????

Greybeard said...

Yes, I'm out here.
My son takes the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's course this weekend. If he passes, I can look forward to riding the mountains around Phoenix with him next time we visit.

Like Indy, we have freezing rain forecast in our part of the world today. I'm getting ready to turn over and sleep, and fully expect our helo to be in the hangar when I arrive for my night shift tonight. (Helicopter ice-sculptures are beautiful, but don't fly well.)

DJ, Echo and PT are both on Facebook, and Echo commented on one of my blurbs this morning. Are you on Facebook?

GB, no facebook for me, at least not right now.If you "talk" to them you might have them check in here just to say hi!

Tomorrow is open Friday . . . gonna go to the barn to see the horse and work him a little (tonight). That's all for me for now. Mr. L are you out there?

Get an indication of my frustration, DJ? Why do the work if no one cares?

We'll be in Indy sometime soon to get certified birth certificates for Passports. Maybe you'd be interested then in figuring out how you can take the helm here? I'd like that.

My son passed his MSF course last weekend and got his Motorcycycle license the following Monday. We're looking forward to riding the hills around Phoenix with him the next time we're out there.

To all those that extended Happy Birthday wishes to me last week...
Thank you. You made my day better.

GB let me know when you're going to be in town;Maybe we can get together and talk about that. I started to take the MC abate ? course several years ago but didn't follow through. Figured the horse came first.
