1st Grade- Mrs. Parrish

I'm hopeful the way I copied this pic will allow you to click and enlarge it.
Several faces here you'll recognize if you do that...
(I count at least four active VK bloggers... do you see more?)

I cannot load the picture. I've tried on 2 different computers with fast internet.
Is anyone else having trouble seeing the picture?

I can't get it either. Also I couldn't open up the one from the other day. I believe it was the video. Probably just me.

Nope. I'm with ya, TC. Can’t get it to open either but I can imagine those little faces. I'm pretty sure we would recognize most of them.

But if memory serves, you were a "city boy" and didn't join us until HS? You were much more sophisticated and gave our class a good measure of “coolness”, I thought.

Of course if you missed the early grades, then you missed the porcine sex-ed classes that took place in the field behind the elementary building. LOL

Darn! I didn't join CG until 2nd grade and I don't remember porcine sex-ed classes. Maybe 2nd grade windows faced the other direction.

I can't pull up the picture either.

I don't think you missed that much, Joker. I thought they were playing leap-frog and just not very good at it.

And having the windows open gave the whole room an aroma that only a fertilizer salesman could love

I was one of Miss McKenzie's angels and was much more interested in Danny K’s white bucks at the time.

Well shucks!
The picture won't load here either, and I'm on a slllloooooooowwww dialup connection in Destin, FL, so it's doubly frustrating.
It's all still farts and sparks to me... don't know what happened. I'll rectify the situation when I get home Monday evening.
(Show-biz folks would say I'm a genius... I've just increased anticipation!)
How do I make money at this?

Your right tabby I got to CG my Freshman year. Went to school in Indy. School #69. We sure didn't have any classes on porcine sex-ed. No wonder I enjoyed CG so much when I got there. You gals were so sexy now I know why.Truly everyone was wonderful when I came you made me feel like I'd been there forever. What a great group of classmates and friends I got to know. Class of 65 was the greatest.

What a great bunch of precocious kids....Is that Beaver Cleaver standing next to GB's left????

I recognize in the 1st row: Linda B, Melanie C, Pricilla P.(?), Barbara V, Janet B, Beverly H.

2nd row: Two dogs, Mike B, Ferdy, Diane J, Danny P.

3rd row: Harry F (with suspenders), Greybeard, David W, Arthur B.(?), Allen S, Hawkeye.

Some of the rest I recognize, but can't put a name to.

What's weird here is that I re-posted this pic exactly the same way I posted it in the first place... and now ALL can see it?
Amazing, puzzling technology!

Joker... good call identifying many of those faces!
In the second row, find Sandy R. who has been mentioned on VK several times... TD, didn't she end up at Southport with Mrs. TD? Also in the second row, with the curls alongside her face, is our Valedictorian's cousin, Sherry L.
In the 3rd row, find Bill G, Terry B., and the aforementioned Steve L.. "Beaver Cleaver" standing next to me was, I think, a guy named William William Williams, believe it or not. Also in that class was a kid named Ricky Ristangelo (sp?).

Anyone recognize more?

Joker - Do these names sound right? First row - Nancy B.
Second row - Female Schwartz, Charlotte ?, Sandy R. and maybe Stanly M.
Third row - Terry B., Steve L.,Bill U.
I'm like you - some of the faces look familiar; but, I'm not sure about the names.

I thought John T. was in my class; but that must be the second grade. I know he has his cowboy hat and guns in some picture.

for the life of me I don't remember a Nancy B, Sandy R, or Stanly M. I remember Charlotte (somebody), but don't recognize her in the picture.

ahhh...Steve L and Terry B in 3rd row, I recognize them now! Which one is Billy U? is he standing to the right of Allen S?

Wow! This is fun. Wish I could find my second grade picture, I'd get it posted on here somehow. The only people I can remember that was in my 2nd grade class was Allen S, Cheryl M, & Marty U. Our teacher was Mrs Rueff.

Mis-typed...
Bill U shoulda been Bill G., and Bill is next to Mrs. Parrish.

Greybeard said...

Names comin' back to me...
Sirona M. probably in that picture too.

It wasn't mistyped. I think it's Bill U. standing at Allen S.'s right.

OMG! I had signed off and was getting ready to go somewhere when out came the words:
Charlotte White and Sandy Ruoff!!!
and isn't that Sandy R next to Ferdy? I recognize her now. I still don't know which one is Charlotte W.
I just HAD to sign back on and say that!

I think that's Billy G. next to Mrs Parrish

I remember the name Sirona, too, no idea what she looks like, though.
AND, does anyone see GB's expression in tnat pic? Looks like he's gonna cause some trouble, right??? Or maybe he already has!

A little background information:
I'm not sure how she did it, but while I was in Viet Nam Mrs. Parrish found my address and we frequently corresponded. When I got back home I lost track of her. She was a great teacher and a wonderful person, and it'd be nice now to tell her how much I appreciated her.
And PT, your revelation that many of our teachers didn't have Bachelor's makes me wonder if she was degreed and certified...
If not, she was extraordinary. I count 37 faces in that photo. How many kids would normally have been absent on a given day... maybe two or three? Close to 40 kids in that class... an indication of the stress the class of '65 put on the CGHS system.

Ferd, I think you're right...
It does look like Noble U. there in the back row.
I looked at your comment and thought it was mine, and thought I had mis-typed Bill G.

Joker, it's odd how often pictures show me wearing that expression.
I really was just an innocent, well-behaved kid...

GB,
I think the kid's name is Nicky Rostanzo...he lived two houses south of me in lovely BoMar.

There is a girl in the first row with blond hair with a bow; I seem to remember her as Ruth Ann or Ruthanne but can't remember her last name.

Bo

GB, Who is standing next to TD? He looks like Tools....

Bo

Anonymous said...

Bo - I think you're right about the girl in the first row. Ruthanne was what came to my mind; but, I don't remember her last name either. The boy next to TD does look like Tools; but, I'm thinking Tools didn't come to CG until the fourth grade. At least, that's the first memory I have of him.

Greybeard said...

I wish I had the names for all those classmates. I don't think the names were in the yearbook, were they?
I think the Tools look-alike's first name was Mike... but like the rest of you, I'm just workin' on gut feeling here.
Bo, I think you're right about Nicky, but are you certain about Rostanzo? I'm almost certain his last name was Ristangelo, or something very similar to that.

Anonymous said...

Yep, his name is Rostanzo he had an older sister named Maria. They moved and went to Greenwood to school.

Is the Tools look alike Mike Hogan?

Thanks for posting this photo. I never forgot Mrs. Parrish. I was class of '67, one of Vandy's kids and on the receiving end of Vandy's paddle.

I would love to see a class of '67 photo of Mrs. Parrish's 1st grade class.
