Celebrity Siblings

There are 6 sets of celebrity/show biz siblings (2 per set) I have found, all born in 1940 or before:
3 sets of sisters, 1 set of brothers, and 2 sets with brother/sister.
(I’ll give ya credit(?) if you think of some that I missed)

1. All 12 of these celebrities are still alive except for 2, and those 2 are not related.
2. Of these 6 sets, 3 sets were born in the U.S.; 3 sets were not.

3. These are all well known celebs (at least to our age group)
4. All 3 sets of sisters were NOT born in the U.S. and 1 of the sisters in these 3 sets was
married 9 times.
5. 1 set of brother/sister had a very famous father; the other 10 celebs did not.
Can you guess the 6 sets of siblings - THEY HAVE ALL BEEN GUESSED
ANSWERS:
Olivia de Havilland & Joan Fontain born in Tokyo, Japan
Zsa Zsa and Eva Gabor born in Budapest, Hungary
James Arness & Peter Graves born in Minneapolis, MN
Jayne & Audrey Meadows born in Wuchang, China
Shirley MacLaine & Warren Beatty born in Richmond, VA
Jane & Peter Fonda born in NYC

Dang! You are GOOD at this, Joker! Thank goodness you didn't make up some of the tests we had to take!!

This will take time.

It may be time to mind meld with Senior Citzen

Okay, this is what I learned from the mind meld: ( this list is short by 2 sets of sisters but you will soon be glad)

Set of Sisters: the Doublemint twins. Sissy and Sassy did not know they had siblings until they ran into each other while hunting a cot at the women’s shelter. It didn’t take them long to realize they not only looked alike but their lives had been on a parallel courses. Both were adopted at an early age by NASCAR fans who fed them as much KFC as they could hold and taught them true fashion always included a No. 8 jersey shirt. Unfortunately neither learned to read; both dropped out of school and wandered around in circles, always turning left, for many years.
Once they found each other, they were discovered chewing and popping gum in a Hollywood café. Instant stardom

Set of Brothers Tap dancers Clip and Clop. They learned to dance while helping their father on the chain gang smoothing black tar on rural roads. The hotter the day became, the better their dancing routines.
Since all roads lead to Chicago, their road eventually lead to Wells Street and stardom.

Set of Brothers: Rhett, Brett and Everett. It wasn’t until they hit the vaudeville circuit they learned that Everett was really Eve. That’s when Eve became a solo performer and was last seen dancing in a lighted cage wearing go-go boots and not much else. Thankfully her gig was at the School for the Blind.
The boys found fame on the Gong Show and now write scripts for evening news.

Brother/sister set: Bubbajoe and Darlajolene had a ventriloquist act for the Soupy Sails Show. They had applied for the job by proxy as Mr. & Mrs. Whackennut. Black Fang smelled something bad and insisted on a background check. With results in his paw, White Fang asked the Soupster, “What are the odds that both Bubbajoe and Darlajolene had the same last name before they were married?” After that the Wackennuts became a brother and sister act and were forced to give up most of their health insurance benefits.

I'm pretty close, aren't I? ;)

Me thinks you been eatin' some of DJinIndy's coleslaw!!!!

I think you missed your calling, you should've been a stand-up.

Love that name "Darlajolene"
and you're not close yet.

The Gabor sisters.

Warren Beatty and Shirley McClain (their father was a famous historical figure in several eras)

I've had a glass of wine...
Okay, I've had two glasses of wine!
6 Sets of show-biz siblings, all born before 1940?
Wow.
Insert tab A into slot A, except if the sisters were born outside the U.S., then insert tab B into slot A, except when one of the two is a male born IN the U.S.!
My head is goin' round and round, Joker!
I think PT is right...
Zsa Zsa and Eva immediately come to mind, with Zsa Zsa bein' the only person on earth that has been married more times than Liz Taylor.
(And Eva was the REAL beauty of the two!)

But I'm confused...
Dead, and
"Those two are not related?"
I'm not clear on that.

Another pair that came to mind were Olivia DeHavilland and Joan Fontaine. I checked and found they both were born in Tokyo. If they're not on your list, I get partial credit anyway, right?

It's 2 A.M. here, and I have to fly tomorrow, so the wine must stop.
I'll check in the A.M. to see what my brilliant classmates have found.

And finally-
Weren't Bubbajoe and Darlajolene involved in a scandal of some-sort?

Is James Arness and Peter Graves one set?

Jayne and Peter Fonda,
The Smothers Brothers,

GH, once again you have proven that you have NO memory problems.

Dang you are good!!!

Okay how about Brett and Bart Maverick

Purple Tabby said...

and the Dooby Brothers
and the Everly Brothers

The Joker said...

I knew the the 9 marriages would be a big clue.

1st set: Zsa Zsa & Eva Gabor born in Budapest, Hungary

2nd set: Warren Beatty & Shirley MacLaine born in Virginia

3rd set: Olivia de Havilland and Joan Fontaine born in Tokyo

4th set: James Arness & Peter Graves born in Minnesota

5th set: Jane & Peter Fonda born in NYC (w/famous dad)

The Smothers Brothers and Penny & Garry Marshall were not on my list, thank you Golden Horse. You win some Wicked Wahine cologne!
(not sure who David & Richard Attenborough are - the names sound familiar, though)

Dooby Bros & Everly Bros were singers; maybe I should have stated that there are NO singers in this bunch. ½ credit for that !

LAST SET OF SISTERS TO BE NAMED:
They were both TV personalities and both born in China.

The Joker said...

Two of my dogs are named: Billy Bob and Talula Belle. I'm definitely naming one of my future dogs: Darlajolene!

GB,
One would think I was drinking wine when I layed this all out, but I wasn't. I can see how a couple of glasses of wine would confuse a person trying to sort out my riddle. It is kinda like "insert tab A into tab B"
LOL

Joker,
Great riddles, but you have created one yourself. This is the second time that I have read you making reference to DJ's coleslaw. One time infering to 120 proof and now this one about eating his coleslaw?????????? Were you thinking that it was something other than "COLESLAW"????

Echo

There is nothing in the coleslaw pertaining to any booze etc. DJ has been to all the mini's as have a few others and his coleslaw is sort of a tradition. It's really great!!!!!!!!!! It really is good but one time he forgot a "fancy" bowl to put it in. It is sort of a little things back and forth between he and I about it.

Greybeard said...

Audrey and Jayne.
Didn't realize they were born in China until I went diggin'.

Great quiz, J!

Purple Tabby said...

LaVerne and Shirley

The Joker said...

Audrey & Jayne Meadows is correct!

Indy Echo,
In reference to DJ's coleslaw, it has nothing whatsoever to do with the ingredients. On your post titled "46 days and counting" - DJ said he was still bringing the coleslaw - then he went off on a tangent about Kansas and the yellow brick road, which made no sense to me, but was funny.
Two Dogs and I discussed this and he didn't understand it either, so I made the comment "I'll have what he's having" (in reference to a line from the movie "When Harry Met Sally").

Then PT went off on her brothers and sisters stories, which was hilarious, and I made the comment that she's been eating the coleslaw, too (going back to DJ's tangent). It was just funny to me and in no way reflects on DJ's coleslaw. I sometimes have a warped sense of humor.

DJ, if I offended you, I am truely sorry. It was supposed to all be in good fun.

TwoDogs said...

Ref: Joker says "I sometimes have a warped sense of humor."

Two Dog's reply "I'm not alone!!!"

Joker, it is in good fun and I love your sense of humor. I can relate to it... Just ask GG...

Now, when GB mentioned "Tab A into Slot B" - I'm still a little confused about that. Crazy thoughts are running around and I can't seem to get them out of my head....

The Joker said...

...Scratching my head...Who's GG?
If I ever find 'em I'm gonna ask 'em about TD's sense of humor!

I have looked through our blogroll, my email contacts and the '65 yearbook. Did ya mean GH? Cause I love her sense of humor, too.

Greybeard said...

And to Joker AND DJ-
If DJ is offended by your comments, he's 'way too thin-skinned and needs to find a new website to peruse.

I bet he's not offended.
Wanna bet?

The Joker said...

Naw, DJ is a good guy and I think he has a great sense of humor about it, too, because he did comment back after I said "I'll have what he's having" and he said "Joker, it's in the coleslaw".

the golden horse said...

Would somebody please overnight me a dish of that dang coleslaw????

PT
I gotta admit you are very creative with your sibling names.
I love em all. Sometimes the brian does kick in for me and scares me to death. Like, whoa, what was that? A thought, oh, it can't be.

Joker...Thank you so much for such wonderful puzzles. It is amazing how it is keeping our little ole brains alive and active. Keep em coming, I am enjoying them so much.

Been keeping an eye out on the Lanai, Our President is suppose to be flying in today and he will go right over the house. Last year, he was so close, you could see his little eyes looking out the window.
He was due in here last week and ended up in Iraq..not sure who the navigator was on that flight.

This is the start of Air Force Week and there will be shows and programs celebrating it. The Thunderbirds will be strutting their stuff. How exciting for us that Honolulu was one of 10 cities chosen to celebrate the Air Force.
So for any Air Force people, or for that matter military of any kind, from our class or school. I SALUTE you.

TwoDogs said...

Who is Brian? And, GG, I don't much like it - if he's kicking you..... Maybe, we'll have a 'talk' with him in Novemeber.

The Joker said...

Two Dogs!!! I just got it!
I'm laughing hysterically.

Oh gawd! I wish I were going to Hawaii with you guys and meet up with GH and laugh uncontrollably for days.
GH,
Thank you for the compliment about the puzzles, I'll be working on more when I get a chance.
Your comment about the Prez was great:
"He was due in here last week and ended up in Iraq..not sure who the navigator was on that flight."
We have to overnight you some coleslaw just for that comment.

Sorry GG got kicked by Brian!
I'm having too much fun today, it took me forever just to type this comment because I am laughing so hard, I have tears!

Ricky and David Nelson

TwoDogs said...

Give it up, PT - this riddle is over....

the golden horse said...

Okay okay you guys, I meant to type the BRAIN kicked in. I got a little excited there thinking of that slaw and what it does for you. Can't wait to try it.

Joker, you are more than welcome to join us anytime. Laughs are free.
The last date TD and I had, (with his wife's permission) I laughed so hard my jaws hurt and my sides were splitting. Might have been the Maragaritas, but I choose to think not.

TD Thank you for watching out for me. I don't think I have to worry about my other half to kicking me.
Do you realize how quick the time is coming upon us? Actually, you will be here next month. Yea.
We drove to the North Shore just for you last week to swim at Sunset beach. Waimea was looking good. I told them you were coming.

The Joker said...

This has just been too funny!
I think we should take our "act" on the road!

and how could I forget Ozzie & Harriet's little boys?

some Wicked Wahine Cologne for PT, too.

TwoDogs said...

Joker, I have to ask.. How much of that Wicked Wahine stuff did you buy?

And how old is it???

GG, I knew that Ken would never do that. I was a little concerned about Brian, though....

Sunset Beach and Waimea is always looking good! I'll get my speedos ready. Uh, maybe not - Cinders said she threw them out years ago....Actually, right after I last wore them ....

the golden horse said...

I gotta tell you guys, speaking of Wicked Wahine, Better half and I went down to our little yacht club today for a chili cookoff. Normally we can't get in, but today was special and we got to walk down the docks and look at the boats. We get down to the very last one on the end and there she sat the Wicked Wahine. I almost fell off the dock.

TD, I am so glad Cinders tossed out the Speedos, you really don't want me to tell you who wears them nowadays.
It is not a view I even want to imagine. I think a nice pair of loud colored, loose fitting surfer shorts will do just fine thank you.
Gotta help you to save your image.

Joker, as for taking this act on the road, make them pay up front, okay? And get PT to write some new ones for us. She's a hoot.

The Joker said...

OHHH let me tell you...I got such a deal at the Int'l Market Place on that Wicked Wahine cologne that I bought way too much and I'm still trying to give it away - 30 yrs later.
Funny thing is, it just doesn't smell quite like it did when I bought it. I'm afraid to take the cap off, but it makes a nice gift or prize!!!!

the golden horse said...

Joker,
I would imagine by now you could probably drink that stuff. Just kidding. Or maybe light your grill with it. I bet it is very volatile. The next trip downtown, I am giong to see if they still make that stuff.
Just keep the cap on until we find out if it should be listed as WMD.

Indy Echo said...

DJ IS NOT GUILTY !!!!!!!!!!

Okay Guys,
I (Echo) am the one who asked Joker if she thought JD"S coleslaw was something other than coleslaw ???? I didn't understand what she ment when she said I will have some of .... etc. I thought maybe she thought it was a drink or something that could confuse ones memory. We have been know to take a nip or two at our get togethers. Didn't mean to open a can of worms. I honestly thought that she might have thought that it was something other than coleslaw....So please NO ONE think that he was offended about anything or said anything.

Some of you were confused about his Yellow Brick Road thingy. In my posting about the Mini, I made mention that I would be sending invitations out soon and would be including (DIRECTIONS).

As most of you know I screwed up my diretions last year by telling you to go right when you should go left or left when you should go right. (Thank goodness for the signs Graybeard and Shifty put up)

Guess I will have to have Shifty go over my directions this year before I enclose them with the invitations. Left up to me some of you could end up in Chicago or Louisville instead of Edinburgh.

I think that my reference to my screw up in the directions last year is what prompted DJ's Yellow Brick Road thing.

Anyway guys, SORRY, if my explanation of the coleslaw upset anyone or put DJ on the spot for something he didn't say or refer to.

Echo
