About a year ago fellow classmate Greybeard turned me onto this great military page. Dennis does a wonderful job and gives credit where it is due. He does a bang up job on the Navy pages.
I have had alot of enjoyment looking at the fantastic pictures and reading the descriptions.
One of the pictures, of the Kitty Hawk coming into Pearl, I was there and it was an amazing sight. She looked a little tired, as she had been headed for retirement, but due to a huge fire on another carrier, she is being kept active for action for a bit longer to participate in Rimpac. She may have looked a little worn, but her sailors are still very proud of her and you can see them all at attention on her deck. Had a problem with water in the eyes that morning. People were lined up along her route to pay homage to the last Diesel Carrier and all her history. In the background you can see the famous Ford Island and the Missouri and Pearl Harbor Memorial your fellow classmates visited. They stayed on Ford Island, in the old hospital that has been remodeled into a hotel, and a beautiful place it is, and they enjoyed being right in the middle of so much history.
On the next picture down, my better half and I got to watch the oiler go out that day to refuel the Kitty Hawk, which is a amazing feat in itself as neither ship stops in the water during the process.
The next picture down, Greybread might find it a little interesting for sure. What's that on her deck?
You can imagine how full Pearl Harbor is with so many extra ships and subs and of course, we did our yearly 4th of July trip through Pearl to pay our respects to all of our fine servicemen.
There were so many ships, you couldn't stir them with a very big stick. And from so many countries.
With all the military from our class and many of our parents also, that were in the service, I hope you enjoy the pictures.
And Greybeard, thanks again, for showing me this site.

Well my dear, there is much I envy about your living there, but maybe the thing I envy most is your ability to watch as these big machines float by with "all hands on deck" in their dress whites.
What an amazing sight that has to be!
I still follow Dennis' website, so I had already seen what you have introduced to schoolmates. It's a pain to comment on his site, so I email him now and then at the email address shown and let him know I appreciate his work. If you happen to email him, drop my name and let him know I sent ya, please.

Aloha good friend, yes, it is an amazing sight to see and I love sharing with everyone. When those ships come in, they send out their helicopters and obtain these amazing photos.
The pictures on his website are amazing and I did receive an email from him the other day and I told him about you steering me to it. I am not sure I dropped your name, but I will, now that I have your permission.
Did you notice the F14 on the LHD 6Now that had to be a difficult feat to accomplish. At least someone has some great humor left.
Golden Girl,
What a site to behold! I believe that is the Navy Lodge in the background, isn't it? A trip that I will not forget.
What are you guys going to do for Vacation this year? Can you beat Rome?
We are going to do the Irish Fest this Sept. Are you going to be in town? And how about Alaska next year???? It will be a great time - again!
Aloha Twodogs,
Yes, I do believe that is the lodge that holds such wonderful times for all of us. I am glad that it holds memories you and the little lady to have for many years to come.
Sitting out on the Lanai and eating pizza and laughing until our ribs hurt was a nice one.
As for vacation this year, not sure. There still is plenty of time for hubby to surprise me again. I am not sure if he can surpass Rome, Florence and Venice at Christmas time, but I am willing to gamble on it.
We did spend four days on Maui last month by taking the new Superferry over and had a ball. We took our car and covered alot of territory.
Wish we could see the Irishfest, but please, someone take lots of pictures and post them.
If the flights continue to rise, and the amount of them cut, we may never get off island again. But on the up side, there are all kinds of bargains for visitors now.
We had a fun time when we went to the winery on Maui. We pulled into the parking lot and low and behold there were two van loads of Nuns.
They were having a great time, I suspect it had something to do with the wine tasting, and were in high spirits, pardon the pun. One of their male escorts pulled along side of us and told my Better Half, "hey, your car won't be there when you come out." When asked why, they all chimed in, Cause Sister Mary has always wanted a red sports car and it's her birthday." We asked her if she would like to sit in the car and she was all but jumping up and down with excitement and the others were giggling like preteens at a slumber party. She proceeds to get in, after we put the top down and the next thing we knew, they all had surrounded the car and cameras were flashing at an alarming rate from everyone in the parking lot. It looked like Springbreak in Daytona, sans the bikinis. They told us they were putting the pictures on her website.
Not sure about Alaska just yet, a couple of things on the back burner right now. But it sounds like a ball.
Let's see if I have this right..
You say - a Nun with her top down, drinking wine and sitting in a red convertible on the beach, giggling like a teenager. And the three of you were having a great time! I'll bet!!! Now, that's a birthday she won't soon forget.... Do you think she would like to do the IrishFest with us?
Now I can't get that picture out of my head. What's wrong with me?
Twodogs....
You have got to quit drinking that cheap wine.
No, The top was down on the car.
Yes, the whole group of Nuns was giggling like a bunch of teenagers and YES, I think they would love to do the Irishfest with you.
Let's see, about a dozen Filipino Nuns in Indiana at a Irish Fest, Now that would be something to see.
They were so sweet and having a ball that day. We had many laughs over that day.
Uh,Excuse me! The brand of wine that I drink is not cheap! Have you priced Thunderbird or the even more upscale Night Train lately? It is NOT cheap....
Okay Guys,
It is nothing but Rocky Ripple and Mad Dog for me these days. A little Mogan David on the rocks is yummy too.
Who can afford that 'pensive stuff these days. Gotta revert back to the old stand byes.
Actually we bought some Pineapple Wine on Maui and it is quite good. sorta like pineapple juice on 'roids.
But, still, give me a good ole Maragrita with some Gran Marnier
And as for that PT girl being hoodwinked....lol.....I think you were the ones that was hoodwinked. She's a nurse, she knows her anatomy., and her gears. She just wanted a wild ride at 16.
