Ain't Skeered. (Much.)

Superstitious?
Will you change your behavior today? If so, in what way? I love scary movies and I'm amused by Halloween or the idea that bad things happen on Friday the 13th, but I can't think of a thing I'll do differently to try to avoid "Bad luck" today.
TwoDogs and Tools were born on the 13th, so any birthday that falls on a Friday... is that a bad day for them? Hardly.
The unlucky 13th falls one day prior to the lucky 14th of February. What are you doin' special for your significant other this year?

We've had considerable rain here over the last few days. Flash flood warnings have been issued for low-lying areas. My mechanic at work lives behind a levee separating his home from Old Man river. He's already begun the process of moving valuable objects to higher ground.
(He's rebuilding an old classic biplane and has moved it three times in four years.)
We've also had warmer-than-normal weather the last week. I don't think we've had the furnace on for four days...
Makes for great cuddling at night!

Your turn now.
Make us think, laugh, or cry...
But DO share!

It's been a busy week at work for me which is a good thing. With the economy down, so is our work. To have appointments and sell my work, no matter how small a job, we are writing contracts. Most are remodels.

I've spent a few nights at the hospital with my ex sister in law. Her mom died last night.

We had to go to Loogootee the first of the week to take some orders to our Amish family who builds our cabinets for us.
We saw a lot of the distruction there from the ice of last week. Can't imagine what farther south (Kentucky) looks like.

Hope everyone has a Happy Valentine's Day.

Is that an order, Ma'am?

Carol, I hope your phone rings off the hook!
I've noticed an odd phenomenon in two areas where I have an interest...
People still want to do what they want to do, but they are being forced to cut back or downscale. If you are in the position to serve that need, you'll weather this economy fine. Rather than build new homes, you and Tracy can make parts of the old home new. Take the ball and run, girl!

Loogootee? Been there. Love to say the name.
I've been to Gnaw Bone too!
(And French Lick, where I didn't meet any French, thank God.)

'Tools' and I were 13 on Friday the 13. Funny story - That day also happened to be the one and only time that I was pulled into Vandy's office to get an up close and personal 'look' at his paddle. Tools and I were best friends. We were celebrating our Bday in the hallway. Probably a little too loud and who knows what else we were up to at the time. Anyway, Vandy got wind of something happening and went looking for us. Found us, gave us his look and said in a very calm tone of voice - "Follow me, Boys!"
Even though his tone and demeanor was calm, we knew we were in trouble. It was between classes, we were in the 'big' building and there were lots of students milling around. Tools and I hung our heads and followed Vandy to his office. We just had a knot jerked in our tail and everyone knew it. Very humiliating. Age 13, brand new in that building, feeling our oats and wanting to impress all around us, etc., etc.... Well, that brought us back to earth in a hurry. Got down to his office - I remember that he introduced us to all that were there (more embarrassment), commenting to them about how proud our parents would be, etc... He went behind his desk, sat down, reached back and got his paddle. I swear - it had notches in it! Lots of them...Also had holes drilled into the 'meat' of it. He went onto say that he hoped that 'this' would make such an impression on us that he would not have to see us in his office ever again. Well, for me - it worked. He knew that it was our birthday and he took it 'easy' on us. But, it did make an impression on me and My Butt! That was the start of our years in the big school. Friday the 13th. Am I 'Skeered'? Well, maybe a little!

How many out there have gotten that up 'close and personal' look at Vandy's whuppin stick? I suspect most of the guys have. I know GB has. Any others?

TwoDogs,
I didn't know that happened to you and Tools on your 13th birthday...I do remember you were both 13 on the 13th because as I remember the county paper had a story and your pictures in the paper. I thought you guys were so cool getting all that attention that day! HAH!! Geeze, just think, if I had been born on the 13th I might have been in Vandy's office with you juvenile delinquents.

Hey GB

Don't ya know - I never give orders to my senior citizens. Ha

You got that right on with making old parts new. Just wished I could do that with my bod!!!

Birthday whippins from Vandy! That must've been a treat.

I was in the dentist chair for a cleaning/exam when I thought about it being Friday the 13th. I figured he'd find a mouthful of cavities since it was the 13th. Nope...not a one.

Right now I can only think of being in Vandy's office three times...
Once when he expelled Tools and me and told Ron S. we were a bad influence on him...
Once when me, Ron S. and a group of guys decided we didn't need to go back to Mr. Bankston's class after lunch...
And once when an Indiana State Trooper, (Bob Sheets?) cited me for reckless driving on my way to school. Vandy tried to sway Officer Sheet's hand in that matter, and I'll never forget that.

We've all said it before...
The endearing thing about him was that he always seemed to know he was supervising good kids, and he wanted to keep it that way. Even while being punished I never felt he was unfair.

Carol, I have not dabbled in Facebook and there is much chatter about it everywhere now. You, or others, might do us all a favor by enlightening us about what getting a facebook account might do for us. Think of this...
Just putting my name and email address at Classmates.com was what got "Vandy's Kids" and all this mini-reunion stuff started. Maybe joining facebook would force more old friends outta the bushes?

Cissy, I enjoyed reading about your luncheon with old friends. Would you be up for having lunch/dinner in Evansville (or Jasper) with a few blogfriends? I bet there'd be some interest in such a venture.
There is a restaurant near the intersection of U.S. 41 and I-64 (Haubstadt?) that I've seen signs for and always wondered about. Anyone have a personal experience?

GB - I've not been to the one at 41 & 64; but if it's the one I've heard about, it's very nice. There are several nice ones in Jasper - the Schnitzelbank for one, if you like German food. I would like to join you whenever you get together.

I'm happy to say I never got "invited" to Vandy's office; but, I know my brother was a visitor there more than once.

Schnitzelbank in Jasper. Go for the apple strudel. It's the best. And their chicken livers. Dang, wish they had Schnitz in Indy.

Cissy Apple said...

GB, name the place and time. I can go north too. If you want to do SW Indiana, the Schnitzelbank is about the best place around these parts.

The only time I wouldn't be available is from April 16th to May 2nd. My sister, son, and I are going to Italy to hang out for a while.

Oh, and I'm on Facebook and have a couple of warnings. Make sure you are running a spy-sweeper type of software on your PC. I've picked up a few Trojans just going on Facebook. Norton couldn't find them either. You can also get them clicking around on links in Facebook. And there's always the Adware that gets placed on your PC too.

I have found a few classmates on Facebook, but not a lot of people our age tend to hang out there. But it's great when you do find one or two old buddies.

I swear by SpySweeper. It's great. I am seeing more and more people my age getting on facebook. Go for it. That's how I found Robin P.

Well, Rita...it's nice that people your age are finally moving away from cuneiform.
