The Log Inn Gathering

For all of you that could not make it to the Log Inn, you really missed some great food and again good fellowship with our classmates. Needless to say the desserts were delicious afterwards at the barn.
We want to Thank Terry & Sharon and Scott & Lois for the use of the party barn. It was the perfect end to a very good day. We set around visited and just plain relaxed after our bellies were full. Terry & Steve did play a little table tennis, "Did I say Little"???
David took some pictures so hopefully he will get them posted when he has the time. I hope everyone made it home safely.
Has anyone heard from Echo to see if they are OK and what happened to them Saturday night??

Hello All,

Yes, Shifty and I are OK. Sorry that we missed the gathering. We had planned on being there from the beginning.

Unfortunately, we had a family emergency at the last minute. Larry's brother-in-law was admitted to the hospital for a massive heart surgery. Of course I couldn't remember the name of the rest. and I didn't have anyone's cell phone numbers so we could call.

But on the brighter side.

We are now the proud GREAT GRANDPARENTS of a beautiful baby girl. Ava-Grace Lynn Evans came into the world at 6 pounds 2 ounces and 18 inches long. A full head of black hair. Mother and baby are doing fine. Took mommy SEVEN MINUTES to deliver.

So needless to say we have had a very eventful week.

Again sorry we missed all of you. Trust me the food you guys had was much better than the fast food we ate.

Looking forward to seeing all of you Sept. 26 for the mini. Please spread the word about the mini to anyone you can. I will be sending out e-mails this week and next.

I think that was the best fried chicken I ever put in my mouth!

Interesting little hole-in-the-wall restaurant in my opinion. Not much to look at...
Some downright ratty appointments here and there, par for the course in a restaurant over 150 years old, I suppose. But the "Log Inn" was clean. Once we decided we had a full complement and gave the signal to bring on the food it came quickly and in mass quantities. Fried chicken, Ham, and Roast Beef were the entree choices, and those that didn't select chicken ended up wishing they had...
It was melt-in-your-mouth!

Parker house rolls, peas, mashed spuds, kernel corn, cole slaw, and your choice of brown or milk gravy. Am I missing anything guys? Tasty!

Before settling at TC's son's party barn we stopped at Sharon and TC's house and took a look at the fountain/pond they have installed, with several large coy swimming around. Wonderful!

The party barn is just about perfect for gatherings of this sort. Lots of room to spread out and visit with one another...
I think we all got a chance to visit with everyone to our satisfaction before we finally packed up to head home at about 11 P.M..

And I too hope this "David", whoever that is, posts pictures here. It was a good lookin' group!

We missed JT and Barb, and Echo and Shifty, and you guys missed a fine time and great food. Great news about that grandbaby Echo, and I hope the heart surgery was successful.

Start planning now for 26 September folks. It'll be here before you know it.

Love these mini gatherings. We look forward to all of them. Sharon, the water garden is really neat. Loved the setting of the playhouse w/ waterfalls and koi in the pond. T & S have a neat set up outside of Evansville - is it Chandler(?). The party barn is the perfect place for a group. Cinders enjoyed sitting in the new gazebo overlooking the lake and the 'girl talk' that followed. For us 'old guys', maybe we should choose a different indoor sport; maybe one with a little less movement would be better for us - something like checkers would be good.... Although, TC has got a great TT game. A little more playing time would have been helpful for both of us. After the cool down - I was ready for another one - ha, ha, ha.. We will have to get two more and play doubles next time. I think JT plays the game.

Great time Saturday night. Carol and T ,the blackberry cobbler was delightful. Sara Jean - Thanks for the PB cookies. The chicken was very good - too good - I would have liked to sample more of the dessert - it all looked so good.

Cinders and I drove home thru the country Sunday. Picked up SR 135 and headed north. Stopped and had blueberry cobbler (just what I needed) at the Story Inn. Then continued north thru Nashville and got home around 5pm.

Echo and Shifty - glad all is well. We missed you and plan on seeing everyone again on Sept. 26th

Praying for good results for SJ's brother Tommy and niece Jenn. SJ and GB and their Chicago family need all of our well wishes and prayers to get them thru the next few months.

A "mostly happy" update on our news:
We returned home Saturday night to find the light blinking on our answering machine. Sara Jean's niece was diagnosed some months ago with stage 4 ovarian cancer and has been undergoing chemo/radiation/experimental drug treatment since. Her brother, not unlike SJ, is strung as tight as a guitar string, but has handled the stress of slowly losing his 38 year old daughter better than we expected... until this weekend.

Saturday he got short of breath to the point of thinking he was gonna die. He laid on the floor and the condition didn't improve. At the ER they found it was entirely stress related, but in running tests they found he had serious occlusions of several arteries and admitted him to the hospital for open heart surgery on Monday. The good news is that he came through with flying colors. The odd news is that unless SJ's brother had been under this stress it is likely he would have died like his&her father did-
Massive heart attack and dead before he fell to the floor.
The bad news is that our niece is still in desperate trouble and needs a miracle...
Her two less-than-10-year old sons are praying for that miracle, as are we.

Tying up loose ends-
Monday while her brother was in surgery, SJ was flushing her colon for her colonoscopy Tuesday. That procedure is now done and they found and snipped 5 polyps, all apparently benign but on their way to the lab to be checked for sure.
It's been a stressful, tumultuous few days for the Greybeard family.
Big Bubba arrived from Arizona yesterday, and he and SJ are headed to Chi-town today to visit with health-troubled loved ones, leaving me at home to work and take care of the furkids.

For all those sending good vibes our way I say, Thank you.
You warm our hearts.

Our prayers are with you and your loved ones. We also have been going through some troubled times with family illness as I stated. Larry's brother-in-law is going to go through surgery again this next week. They say the surgery is going to be at least a 7-8 hours process. They have him wired to a monitor right now that goes directly into the doctor to keep track of things. Naturally he is really scared.

As you all know Shifty is from Kentucky as is his brother-in-laws family. He is from a large family (as is most of these Kentucky clans), so all of his family has been here to give him support for this up coming surgery.

Family love and support is so important to these loved ones who are suffering physical and mental pain.

God can work wonders if we put our faith in him. Remember a couple of months ago I found that lump in my breast and with God's intervention it disapeared after showing up in Mammo-Ultra Sound and MRI.

Keep the faith and know that we are all praying for your loved ones.

Amazing how much can happen in the span of a few short days. Blessings to all of you who are trying to endure sad news and health issues.

Lil Sis spend the night at West Baden on the sixth floor--with a balcony into the dome, no less. Such a beautiful place. My daughter stayed last night at the waterpark in French Lick as a surprise to her new kids. They loved it, of course. Maybe someday all of us should plan to spend the night at French Lick for a weekend reunion. Autumn would be a pretty time for that.

Got to see the granddaughters, so plenty of hugs were enjoyed. Of course I went to the casino to lose a few bucks. Luckily, I kept on playing and ended up winning back all of my losings and then some. I ended up walking out $40 ahead, and I had a good time. I love it when I'm paid to have a good time...wait...does that sound bad?

Today I'm working on making more rosaries, jewelry, and my latest creation...beaded security badge holders. I hated wearing those uncomfortable SAIC lanyands and the yukky thick plastic card holders. These are much more comfortable and I can even wear them just as jewelry. I sure didn't need to pick up another hobby, but I really like this one.

Later, gang...have a good Sunday and tolerable Monday.
