Telstar!
When this tune first hit the airwaves, Tools called excitedly and asked, "Have you heard it?"
...Satellites bein' launched, and the first music being augmented by synthesizers.
We had front-row seats to history, folks. Later generations take this stuff for granted.
It's Friday forum time.
Do you have news "for'em"?

TELSTAR! August 1962, just before we would enter our Sophomore year in High School. The song sure did get my attention but I give it a "5" to dance to that music!
Remember listening over the intercom when the first space ship was launched? It went UP and then DOWN and we were thrilled.
Thanks for the memories.

I remember way back when, Must have been late 50's or very early 60's which would have made me 4 to 6 years old. They were showing the launch of an unmanned rocket. As soon as it took off, I ran to the window looked out and expected to see the spaceship going up across Rural st. Kinda hard to see that launch from Indy, but I remember how exciting those days were, trying to see Sputnik flying overhead (impossible to see due to the city lights) I do remember watching the first live broadcast of television re-transmitted by Telstar. Some Spanish guy playing a guitar, big deal I wanted to see spacemen. Speaking of spacemen, does anyone else remember this event, It happened early 60's, a local tv station in Indy came on with a (SPECIAL REPORT ) a flyins saucer had landed in someone's yard in Indianapolis. I saw that and nearly sh@# myself. I saw War of The Worlds and I knew what we were all in for! it was a short time later when that station came back and apologized for the false report, it seem some guy had built a playhouse in the shape of a flying saucer for his kids, someone saw it and reported it. Guess even back them some media were doing a bang up job of fact checking, I have no idea of which 3 stations it was and been on the net trying for years to google some info on this info to no avail. does anyone else remember this or am I just nuts?
Yep, the two brothers did indeed run to the window to see the rocket launch. I was about five at the time, and remember thinking how incredibly dumb boys could be. About that same time, I remember seeing on the news that there was going to be a sonic boom the next day. They explained what a sonic boom was and I understood it enough to not be scared.
The next day I was out in the yard playing when BOOOOMMMMM! Mrs. Keyler came out about the same time as the Clouses. They looked around and asked each other, "WHAT WAS THAT???". I stood up and yelled at them that it was a sonic boom and not to be scared.
I loved the Telstar song, but it's correct--nobody could possibly dance to that song and it wouldn't have picked up many points on Dick Clark's Bandstand. I can remember seeing Telstar too.
