It's Not Nice To Fool With Mother Nature

Remember that house?
That, and other pictures are all
here.
That home may not exist in 24 hours, and that's a sad thought.
I'm happy "Tools" isn't worrying about his home, but nevertheless upset that a place that served well to provide four of us great memories may be destroyed by hurricane Ike.

I hate to open a Friday forum on that note, but I'm in Del Rio, Texas, on a borrowed computer, having run here with the company's $3 million dollar machine to protect it from the tornadoes that are bound to be spun off by Ike.

Talk amongst yourselves...
I'll be eavesdropping when I can!

I watched Fox last night until I went to sleep. Can't imagine anyone not leaving the Galveston area with all the warnings. I lived in Sugarland, Texas when the last big storm went through. I was one of those that stayed in my home. It was an all brick home on high grounds. There was so much damage when daylight came. It was very scarry. We had no damage to our home but a few shingles off and some trees down. Our pool had pieces of a barn from the place a few doors down from us.

I put the kids in the hallway with a mattress over them. If we had evacuated to where we were told, we would have been hit with a tornado that hurt several folks that went through this church shelter. That storm was nothing like IKE! I hope that the people who decided to stay have high enough places that the floods doesn't consume them.

GB - I hope you stay out of mother natures arm and be safe. Do you think you might be called to help with any rescues?

Stay safe, GB. I hope where ever Tools is now he is safe too.

To be clear on a couple points...
I'll take little in the way of risk personally, so don't worry about me. I'll probably be doin' mostly hospital to hospital transfers, getting folks away from damaged hospitals to facilities with power, water, etc..

Tools sold that home a year ago and now lives on Lake Livingston, quite a way North. Someone else is now worrying about that property.

Stay tuned, I'll keep you advised either here at VK or at Pitchpull.

Thanks everyone.

Is everyone okay? I thought my weeping willow was going to blow over yesterday. We had all those strong winds and not a drop of rain. We could have used a little rain.

Echo - I think I'll be able to make it this year. I'm not planning (at this time) to go to Virginia for my granddaughter's birthday. I'll get to see her and the rest of my family the second weekend of October when we all go to Pigeon Forge.

Update:
I'm sitting on the ER ramp at the hospital in Galveston as I type this. The ARMY came in and set up an emergency communications system for the hospital, to include a new Ambulance-to-hospital radio, phone lines to anywhere in the U.S. for ANYONE that needs them, and internet access with 6 new Dell computers. The internet connection isn't the fastest in the world, but it's one huge step up from no connection at all yesterday.

Tools old home is still standing. I cannot vouch for how much water went through the ground floor, but the house is there.

More later.
Be safe and well everyone.
