Your Fearless(?) Internet Leader

Stick with me folks.
I'm always pokin' around the internet,
finding stuff
you'll find interesting.

The Edinburgh mini got me to thinking about it...
We are rightfully proud of the accomplishments of the class of '65...
And Steve's accomplishments rank 'WAY up there!

Good on ya, Steve.

IT WAS GREAT !!!!!

Well, guys we can make another entry into our archives
of the Class of 65 Fond Memories.

The Annual October Mini of 2007 is now a memory. It was
so wonderful to welcome all of you into our home once again.
Each year (it's 3 now) we say "this was the best". Well, let
me say again.

THIS WAS THE BEST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Carol for getting your pictures posted so quickly.
They really turned out great. I am looking forward to
more coming. I said special prayer's for beautiful
weather for the weekend and my prayer's were
answered. I don't think we could have had a more perfect
weekend for the mini. It was beautiful during the day and
the temperature was just perfect for around the fire.

If anyone would have told me 42 years ago that we would
turn out to be such good cooks I would never have believed
it. WOW, the food was fantastic. DJ, you out did yourself
on the cole slaw again this year. haha.

It was wonderful to have Harry & Carol here from FLA.
It is really something when you can sit on a sofa next to a
classmates wife and look over at her husband and say
"Hey, do you remember when we were boyfriend and
girlfriend in the 7th grade and the wife to get a kick out
of it." I guess that's better than saying when we were
Junior's or Senior's. Then there (might) have been a few
more questions !!!!!!

Anyway, I want to thank all of you for attending. As was
previously stated we have added a new member to our
"group" as an honary member of the class of 65. Welcome
Pam. Look forward to seeing you again next year and hope
hubby is home from the militay and can attend with you.

We had a special honored guest attend this year. Dr. Barne's,
Janet B's mother joined us. It was so wonderful to have her,
I forgot how tiny she is. What could make the day more
special than to have a parent of a classmate attend?

Thanks, Steve for the lovely "pink" scarf's. It was great
to know that in the midst of a weekend set aside for fun
that we could include our support for something as
serious as support of "breast cancer". It just goes to show
how great our class really is and that as we grow older we
learn to appreciate and value our life and health even more.

Shifty and I want to "thank you" for joining us and the
door is always open.

Love to all,
Echo & Shifty

Mini 2007

Thank you Karen & Larry for opening up your home again to another great mini. Larry out did himself this year with the bon fire. It was massive, beautiful and warm. I was able to capture a few around the tables and the fire. My daughter in law came with us last night and her comment was "I was astonished at how everyone welcomed each person as a family member and not just a class mate. The closeness of this class is amazing."

ARE YOU READY TO PARTY ??????

TWO MORE DAYS ON THE COUNT DOWN

Can you believe it?

Just two more days until the mini?

Things are lookin good for Saturday. Indy is having
some pretty heavy (much needed) rain right now.
But I just heard the weather forcast and all systems
are go for the week end. The rain is suppose to end
tonight and Saturday day is suppose to be 75 and
50 at night and Sunday is suppose to be beautiful
as well at around 80.

This all has to be a good sign that the mini is going
to be another huge success this year. Sorry to say
that we aren't going to have the turn out of past
years but the one's coming are geared up for a fun
time.

Unless we have some show up that have not sent in
their RSVP's (which is fine - the door is open) here
is the lastest list of the party hounds.

Greybeard and Sara Jean
Ferdy
Harry & Carol F.
Top Cat and His Kitten
Dj
Joker
Hawkeye & Hotlips
Bob white & Mrs Bird
Carol & Tracy
Marilyn & Ron H.

Greybeard & Sara Jean are due in Friday night.
I have a "Honey Do" list for the guys for Saturday
morning. They are going to be putting up signs
at all (4) of the main turns. So you shouldn't have
any trouble getting here. It really is easy. Just (4)
major turns once you come off 65 and you are here.

Just a helpful hint (any those of you who were here
last year will understand) If you directions say the
road only goes RIGHT (turn Left) - Don't do it

If you turn right and end up in a corn field then go
left. If you turn left and end up in a pond then go
right. If you get lost just call 317-729-2440.

Don't forget your lawn chairs - and a sweatshirt or
jacket. If any of you see or hear from anyone not
confirmed between now and Saturday tell them to
come on and join in.

SEE YOU SATURDAY ??????

Global Warming: A Study

Okay, so these mini-reunions are fun. We get together and socialize, laugh, and catch up on one another's lives. But when you think of it, there's been something missing. I've thought about it a lot, wondering why I've left our minis feeling somehow unfulfilled. Discussing it with Echo, I think we've come to a "Eureka" moment...
So far our meetings have all been self-serving. We've had a good time, made ourselves happier. But our minis have not made the world a better place to live. We've gotta change that.
Edinburgh, Saturday night, will be more than just a social event. There'll be SCIENCE goin' on at this mini, folks! Let me explain-

This morning Echo sent the following pic:

It's hard to judge the size of that pile of organic material from looking at this picture, but the chunk of tree you see front and center is probably 42 inches across. This pile of debris has its own area code! Shifty has spent considerable time and effort to gather this material for our study Saturday night.
It is our hope we can set fire to this pile and work together to insure it burns efficiently, then watch the news media to see if sensors the world 'round report a significant increase in the amount of atmospheric greenhouse gases and/or temperature levels.

Your help is needed. Be in Edinburgh Saturday afternoon/evening to help prod, poke, and study this fire to insure every last twig is consumed. Then watch, read, listen to as many media sources as possible for the outcry. We'll report the post- bonfire data here at VK as soon as we can get it all organized.

See ya Saturday!

It's so quiet here

Where is everyone? Do I need to send out a search party? Call for an air ambulance? MIA? or just AWOL? Donde estas?

Before & After Extreme Cleaning

This was me before cleaning out the garage, attic, the shed, all the closets, all the cabinets and chest of drawers

And this is after

As you can see it has NOT been a day at the beach.

If global warming isn't real, you couldn't prove it by my garage. If you really really wanted to fry eggs, I would recommend another place because they will burn in my garage.

I've taken so much junk to Goodwill, I know ALL the employees' names --- especially the ones who are still laughing at my clothes from the '70s . At least my hair was all one color then which is more than I can say for them! (who told them green hair was cute?)

I wake up in the night chanting the mantra: "Throw it Away, Give it Away or Put it Away". Purple Tom is not amused.

A small piece of advice: if you have a chore that includes mountains of boxes to sort, boxes chocked full of junk that is borderline junk/antique, do yourself a favor. Drag it all outside and use a flame thrower on the whole mess. Bring hot dogs and fix supper at the same time.

If you don't think that's a good idea, please review the photos above

Since I'm too tired to write anymore, I'm declaring the floor open to ANY and ALL discussions except cleaning.

(I changed the first photo Joker because I liked the swim suit better. The other one made my butt look too big ;)))

A Tiny Pearl

Do ya pay much attention to TV commercials?
The only reason I watch the Superbowl these days is to catch the commercials that the ad agencies have incubated and nursed to life specifically for airing during that game.

The commercial I want to discuss in this post is what they call a "PSA"...
Public Service Announcement. It has to do with kids riding in cars.
The PSA warns that kids below 4 feet 9 inches tall should be secured in a "booster seat".
As always, this set this old mind to thinkin' back a few years, about a gal TD and I talked about while we were at his house for the Beef and Boards outing...

I worked nights at the Beehive. I started my shift at 5 P.M., relieving whoever was left from the Day crew at that time. For a while, the day crew included "Pearl".

Pearl was a popular addition at the BeeHive. Blonde and cute, she had a Southern accent that flowed like warm butter. She was a good waitress... she'd heard all the lines and knew how to deflect them with a smile.
But the most noticeable thing about Pearl was her stature...
she may have been all of 4' 10" tall standing on her tiptoes. Everyone, including me, wanted to put Pearl in our pocket and take her home!

Every time I hear that "booster seat" commercial I think about her-
Would Pearl meet the legal requirement to ride in a car without one?!!
While driving, does she sit on Indianapolis phone books to see over the steering wheel?

She married, and continues to be married to TD's cousin, David S.
TD, can you do the research and be prepared to answer "Pearl" questions in Edinburgh?

And tell her Greybeard said hello, please!

Note from Bill & Carolyn

Thanks to Dan F. for forwarding this note

To Vandy’s Kids:

The flowers you sent when Vandy died were breathtaking. Thank you so much for the beautiful flowers and for the important role you played in his life. He never really understood the internet, but knew that what ever it was, the class of 1965 was on it!

As you know, your flowers were the only ones taken to the cemetery. We went back there around 4 that afternoon. There was a beautiful butterfly resting on your flowers. We stood silently watching, and it finally flew into the sky. I know it was Vandy, wanting to spend a few moments with his kids.

Thanks for the memories,
Love Bill & Carolyn

One Month/Thirty Days?

Yeah, some cool cats are ready for Leis and sunglasses!
An update:
Having been told I could make them one month ahead of time, and wanting to make sure we got them as soon as possible, I called today to make our reservations for the Navy Lodge at Pearl Harbor.
"John" was very nice when he told me the rule was
30 days ahead of time... so I should call back on Wednesday, 3 October.
I'll be doin' that.

(He indicated that rooms are, and will be available.)
You can still get aboard. Email or leave a comment, and let's meet in Honolulu!
